Dying Light 2 is receiving a new update that makes nighttime considerably darker with dangerous Volatiles roaming the city streets. Developer Techland has been consistently updating Dying Light 2 since its early 2022 launch and has even more plans for the future of the parkour-infused, zombie-slaying action sequel.

Having already released its first story DLC at the end of last year named Bloody Ties, Dying Light 2 has been planning a follow-up DLC alongside all its events and updates. Unfortunately, the second story DLC has recently been delayed into 2024, leaving a significant gap for Dying Light 2 players to deal with for the remainder of 2023. Thankfully, Techland still has plenty of updates planned for this year, including several tied to its ongoing Summer of Horror event. One new update in particular looks to make several fun callbacks to the original Dying Light.

In a new trailer, Dying Light 2 reveals its Good Night, Good Luck update as part of Summer of Horror. The update, calling back to the slogan of the original Dying Light, revamps the nighttime experience by making it even darker and letting loose vicious Volatiles into the city streets to hunt players who dare to explore Villedor after dark. The original game featured Volatiles roaming naturally at night, while Dying Light 2 only unleashes them during a level three chase or inside specific zones. Good Night, Good Luck will have Volatiles freely roaming Villedor as they did in the original title. Additionally, the update even includes a Harran sunset, which calls back to the original game's setting.

Along with the significantly decreased visibility at night, the Good Night, Good Luck update is also implementing previously promised improvements to Dying Light 2's parkour system, including better control while in the air and a new Physical Mode style for players who want more control when traversing the city. Additionally, a new event called Bloody Nights, running until July 13, will take advantage of the overhauled nights and have players hunting for special loot after dark.

Darker nights and roaming Volatiles were big staples of the first game's identity, so fans of the original are sure to be pleased with this new update. However, it would be helpful to know if these alterations are permanent, as there are surely many Dying Light 2 fans who have been enjoying the game as is. Based on Good Night, Good Luck being labeled as an update and not an event, it would seem like these nighttime changes may be permanent. Nevertheless, with the game's second story DLC skipping out of 2023 it seems like the ongoing Summer of Horror event will have Dying Light 2 players busy through September.

Dying Light 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
