Longtime fans know that Dying Light has always had a tricky history with firearms, with Dying Light 2's Reloaded Edition bringing them into the game well after launch. Come Dying Light: The Beast, firearms and other ranged weapons will be much more accessible for returning protagonist Kyle Crane. During my preview of Dying Light: The Beast, which covered the first couple hours of the game, I had already acquired a gun. Early game obviously means early guns, but during a recent conversation with The Best War Games, franchise director Tymon Smektala promised that the ranged weapons "aren't your 'old war veteran grandpa' guns."
One example is the flamethrower, which will appropriately allow players to roast zombies, but there is more to come. For The Best War Games Advance, we can exclusively reveal yet another weapon from Dying Light: The Beast—the Sawblade Launcher—and its origins. The gore is no doubt one of many appeals for the Techland game, and fans who paid close attention to the recently released Blood & Guts trailer may have even noticed the Sawblade Launcher in action (around the 14-second mark).
Dying Light: The Beast Has a Half-Life Easter Egg
As we spoke about the Sawblade Launcher, Smektala said that Techland was "as hungry for Half-Life 3 as any other player on the planet." It's uncertain if Valve will ever learn how to count to 3, so Techland and many fans are still kept on the hook and waiting, but at least they can play with Sawblades in the meantime. Sawblades could be used by Gorden Freeman to cut down zombies, making them a fitting Easter egg for Dying Light: The Beast.
Simple and Effective - Dying Light: The Beast's Sawblade Launcher
"We have a sawblade launcher, a great, portable, gory tool that allows you to launch spinning sawblades that cut enemy limbs in an instant. I guess we’re as hungry for Half Life 3 as any other player on the planet."
Just like Half-Life's sawblades, Kyle Crane will be able to cut zombie limbs in an instant with Dying Light: The Beast's Sawblade Launcher. Fans should be aware that this may not be the end of Dying Light: The Beast's zombies, however, as they can be rather durable. They can survive a few whacks with a melee weapon and lose plenty of flesh and bone in the process. Meanwhile, depending on how much exposure the zombies get, they can even survive a few seconds of the flamethrower. The beauty is in the gore: you can cut off a zombie's arm with the Sawblade Launcher, swap to the flamethrower, and set it on fire. If it survives, you have a one-armed melting zombie shambling toward you.
Overall, carnage is the name of the game in Dying Light: The Beast. Kyle Crane has plenty of rage to let out, meaning plenty of beautiful blood and gore awaits fans come Dying Light: The Beast's release date, September 19.
