Techland's Dying Light wasn't a huge hit with critics, garnering a "Fair" score and Top Critic Average of 74 on review aggregator site OpenCritic. However, it was a different story with gamers; Dying Light has "Very Positive" reviews on Steam, with 94% of the over 91,000 user ratings being positive. Dying Light is Currently Free-to-Play Until August 25
But players interested in trying Dying Light need to act fast. The 2015 zombie title is only free-to-play on Steam until August 25, after which it'll become paid again. Considering it takes around 18 hours for the average player to beat Dying Light, those with a couple of days to spare may have enough time to complete the game from start to finish, assuming they get downloading as soon as possible. And yes, the game is Steam Deck verified for those playing on Valve's handheld device.
Those who miss out on the free Dying Light promotion will still have another great deal to take advantage of for a short while after. Until September 2, Steam is hosting a Dying Light franchise sale, with steep discounts on the mainline games in the series. Throughout this period, the original Dying Light is $4.99 at 80% off, while its 2022 sequel sits at $19.79, a 67% reduction from full price. As excitement builds for Dying Light: The Beast's release, it's a great chance to catch up on the series so far on a budget.
The next game in the series, Dying Light: The Beast, sees original protagonist Kyle Crane return after his presence was sorely missed in the second title. In the lead-up to its launch, Techland has been speaking about what players can expect from Dying Light: The Beast, and there's only a few weeks now until players can finally see what the developer has been passionately working on over the last couple of years.
