In Dying Light: The Beast, weapons are the players' lifeline and the only thing between them and a horde of hungry, infected, so picking up the right tools from the early game is important to learn how to move with them and fight efficiently. There's a wide array of new weapons (and some returning ones from Dying Light and Dying Light 2) that players can try out.
This guide will guide players through the ordeal of picking the best weapons for the early game, so that they can learn how to use them properly as they progress with the Main Story, and then become true experts at hunting vicious undead like the Volatiles and Virals. Dying Light: The Beast also has a different combat style (though similar in some basic aspects) from previous iterations of the franchise, so players need to mix a lot of different tactics and weapons, as well as the new powerful Beast Mode.
Hunting Bow
Probably, the best option for players just starting Dying Light: The Beast, since it's reliable, allows them to keep a safe distance between them and the zombies, and kills most of the Biters and smaller special infected in just one shot. Later, players get access to Fire Arrows and Shock Arrows, which add even more options to the players' ranged weapon kit. The Hunting Bow can be upgraded from Common to Rare (do this as a priority) and then to Epic and Legendary.
It's one of the best weapons in the game, and players can craft arrows using 10 Scraps and 2 Feathers. Scraps can be found almost anywhere, and Feathers can be obtained by looting Bird Houses in gardens or by visiting POIs like the Vanity Store or the Town Hall (purchased from the trader).
William's Knife
William's Knife is a unique Rare Knife that has the particular property of causing severe backstab damage to enemies. If players are more into stealth, this knife will provide consistent damage for sneak attacks, and a Power Attack can eliminate a 'sleeper' enemy while players dive into the Dark Zones, allowing them to continue looting without alerting the rest of the horde.
This Knife can be obtained as a reward for completing 'What Lurks Beyond the Pines,' a quest that will require players to invest in the Stealth Expert Survival Skill, one of the top priorities that players need to unlock to avoid failing most stealth-based quests in the game.
Reaper
The Reaper is an enormous Scythe Two-Handed weapon that can be purchased from the Town Hall vendor, Doug. His inventory refreshes daily, and the weapon might not be there the first time players visit, but if players are patient enough and keep coming every day, they will be able to purchase it.
This weapon is quite good for dealing with tons of infected, but players need to measure distance correctly and release the power attack in time to sweep them all, before the Biters overwhelm them. It causes severe slashing damage, plus, it has increased critical strike chance for Power Attacks.
Tonfa
A good and reliable police baton can be found in most of the Convoys players will find in the Old Town Area. There's a convoy south of the Town Hall, quite easy to clear and loot, and provides lots of chances for players to get a Tonfa or a Reinforced Machete (which is also a decent option as a one-handed weapon). The tonfa deals blunt damage and has low stamina consumption.
Plus, it causes stamina damage, rendering enemies vulnerable faster than other one-handed weapons. Players can mod it with the Slit and Slaughter Mods, to cause bleeding damage with Power Attacks and Critical Hits.
Old Hatchet
The Starter weapon by excellence: Sturdy, has decent damage, and has -5% Stamina cost with every swing. The best feature of this weapon is that its Power Attack does a singular diagonal downwards swing, which catches most enemies just in the range of biting. It is especially useful for dealing with annoying Biters who approach to have a taste of good old Kyle.
This Hatchet can be found near the corpses of most human enemies after defeating them (or the best possible alternative, the Camp Hatchet), and it is considerably cheaper to replace if it breaks than most weapons. It can also be found inside Military Convoys or the trunk of Police Cars (don't forget to carry a lockpick to open them).
Extinguisher
An improvised mace made with a Fire Extinguisher. This weapon might not be as refined as the others, but it sure does the trick, and it's one of the first craftable weapons players unlock by looting its blueprint from the Library Tower Safe Spot (north of the Town Hall). It's quite fast for a mace and does decent damage. It also causes +15% to Stamina Damage, sending zombies to the other side in a single Power Attack.
If players are looking for a good, reliable option that can also be crafted and replaced for cheap, then the Extinguisher is their best call. With how fast weapons degrade before unlocking Efficient Crafting and the Reinforcement Mod, it's preferable to use this weapon than spend lots of resources crafting other weapons like the Rust Sword.
