Dying Light: The Beast is best experienced with a group of friends just like the previous games in the series, and this standalone entry supports four player co-op for the entire campaign. There are some crossplay restrictions in Dying Light: The Beast, however, so you may end up with a smaller squad size than you'd like.
Even if you don't have a dedicated squad ready for Dying Light: The Beast, there are plenty of ways to get random players to help you out if you're struggling to take down bosses or survive chases when the sun sets. You can also jump into random sessions for some quick mayhem and bring your loot back with you to your main save. Here's everything you need to know about co-op multiplayer in Dying Light: The Beast.
Dying Light: The Beast Director Shares More About the Game’s World
With just about a month left until the game's release, Dying Light: The Beast's director talks about what players can expect from the game's world.
How to Unlock Co-Op and Invite Friends in Dying Light: The Beast
You can invite your friends to play with you in Dying Light: The Beast from the co-op menu on the main menu. There, you can browse public sessions or get a group of friends together before jumping into the game.
You can also invite friends while you're in a session. Just pause the game and select co-op. There, you'll see everyone in your active party and some plus signs that you can select to add more people to your group. If you change your online settings, you can even give people permission to freely drop in and out of your Dying Light: The Beast session whenever they want.
You have to play through the intro of Dying Light: The Beast before you can play with others, however. You'll unlock co-op as soon as you escape the facility at the start of the game and make it to your first safe house. Once you've unlocked the safe house, you'll see a pop-up notifying you that multiplayer is available.
Does Dying Light: The Beast Have Crossplay?
Unfortunately, Dying Light: The Beast does not support crossplay. You can only play with other people on the same platform.
There's still some hope, however, as Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektala has stated that the team is considering adding crossplay to the game down the line, even though it's not available at launch. The Dying Light series is known for its robust post-launch support, so a crossplay update isn't out of the question.
For now, you'll just have to play Dying Light: The Beast with a group on the same platform. Thanks to the game's drop-in, drop-out multiplayer system, it should be pretty easy to fill in any gaps in your squad. You can also join random sessions to grind XP and level up fast as well.
