Life After Life is one of the first steps in Kyle Crane's road to revenge in Dying Light: The Beast. After escaping the Baron's facility in Castor Woods, he finds a friend in Olivia, a mysterious woman with ties to the Baron's research team, but she won't be enough. Kyle is going to need more allies to get his revenge, and there's no better place to start than in the nearby town.
In this guide, we'll be going over the necessary steps players need to take in order to complete the Life After Life quest in Dying Light: The Beast, including one particularly confusing part very early on.
All Working Dying Light: The Beast Docket Codes (September 2025)
Players can redeem these working codes on the Docket website to gain access to exclusive gear and cosmetics when Dying Light: The Beast launches.
Dying Light: The Beast - How to Investigate the Smoke in Life After Life
At the start of the quest, you can either head straight to the town Olivia mentioned, or you can go to a nearby camping ground and investigate some smoke coming from a cottage. This area is closer, so you might as well check it out.
At the campground, you'll find a horde of Biters with a small group surrounding the cottage you need to investigate. Get rid of the zombies, then climb through the fence blocking the cottage's main door. Here, you'll find a survivor who will try to attack you. Luckily, he's still a reasonable guy, and after a slight altercation, he'll tell you to head to the town hall.
If you take too long, or if you stray too far away from the campground, you'll get a radio transmission from the town hall. When this happens, both of the initial objectives (including this optional one) will get overwritten.
The Town Hall Encounter
Follow your new quest marker through the town, then make your way to the town hall in the center. Before you do, though, we recommend exploring the rooftops and attics for a bit. You might find some better early game weapon for Dying Light: The Beast along the way.
You don't have to kill the zombies in the town hall courtyard. Just jump over the gate, then enter through the door. A short cutscene will play, and you will get your first-ever gun. It's not much, and it won't have much either, but it'll be useful in the coming combat encounters.
This Chimera uses a lot of slam attacks that can be a little tricky to dodge if you aren't paying attention to your surroundings. It's quite the chunky specimen too, and if you don't want to waste ammo or weapon durability, try picking up a few bottles of Alcohol scattered across the courtyard and craft a Molotov Cocktail. Throw a couple of firebombs at the Defect, then whack it until it drops.
Don't forget about the death XP penalties when playing Dying Light: The Beast on harder difficulties!
Climbing the Tower
Once the Defect is dead, speak with the survivors behind the double doors. You'll meet a man named Jacob, and he'll tell you that their Sheriff went up the town hall's tower to restart their power system, but she hasn't come back since. Head back to the courtyard, then climb up the arch past the statue to reach the tower's base.
From there, just follow the path upward. Climb the stairs, and you'll meet one of the Rangers from the survivor group below. He's already bitten, but he'll give you a box of ammo. After that, climb up the nearby ledge, then use the railings along the walls of the circular room to reach the upper floor. There's a box on top of a platform inside that room that you can use to reach the climbable ledges and railings.
At the very top of the tower is the Sheriff, who is fighting off some Biters. She'll be a bit apprehensive at first, but she'll agree to let you help them out.
If you ever get lost or confused on where to go during these parkour/platforming sections, keep an eye out for some bits of cloth tied to objects or some paint on ledges. More importantly, don't forget to look up, down, or across gaps.
Reconnecting the Power Line
Use the zipline to reach the town hall roof, then make your way to the power room at the opposite end of the tower. Inside, you'll find a junction box, and you'll need to lead a long power line from the box back to the tower. Interact with the box, then go through the small vent in the room. From there, make your way to the base of the tower, then climb back up through the clock face.
Make sure not to cross the power line against any obstacles. It has a limited length, and if it gets tangled, you'll need to untangle it or reset the line completely.
After that, you and the Sheriff will head back to the main group of survivors, and a lengthy cutscene will play out. The quest is basically over at this point, but before you move onto anything else, make sure not to skip the tutorial that follows. It will teach you how to mod your weapons so they can deal different types of elemental damage and other effects. The town hall will become a safe zone for you as well.
There's also a blueprint for a weapon near the workbench inside the town hall.
