More details about Dynasty Warriors: Origins have been revealed thanks to recently unveiled gameplay footage and a new press release from the title's publisher, Koei Tecmo. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is set to come to the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S systems in 2025.
Announced at Sony's most recent State of Play, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the next entry in developer Omega Force's long-running Sangoku Musou series of hack-and-slash games. Nearly two months after the reveal, direct gameplay footage of Dynasty Warriors: Origins has finally been displayed to the public during the recent PlayStation presentation at ChinaJoy 2024, providing fans with more information about the upcoming third-person action title.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins brings back the ancient Chinese hack-and-slash action series that hasn't seen a new installment since 2019.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins will not have an open world like most of its predecessors and players will instead have access to a 3D map that can be used to join battles, visit shops, and interact with characters, the ChinaJoy 2024 gameplay confirmed. Only the acclaimed hack-and-slash series' 2018 entry, Dynasty Warriors 9, featured an open world, but some found the implementation to be lacking.
New Dynasty Warriors: Origins Details
The recently unveiled Dynasty Warriors: Origins footage also confirmed character switching as a mechanic. At one point during the gameplay presentation, control shifted from the Dynasty Warriors: Origins' nameless protagonist to a young version of Guan Yu, a key figure in China's tumultuous Three Kingdoms period that the Dynasty Warriors franchise is based on. Guan Yu has appeared in past titles like the series' fifth numbered entry, which is considered by some to be one of the hardest Dynasty Warriors games ever released. He was also in other games set in the Three Kingdoms period such as Creative Assembly's Total War: Three Kingdoms and Team Ninja's Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, another title published by Koei Tecmo.
Coinciding with the reveal of Dynasty Warriors: Origins' first raw gameplay clips at ChinaJoy 2024, Koei Tecmo provided more information about the game in a new press release. The title's main character has amnesia and its story will begin before the Yellow Turban Rebellion that led to the Three Kingdoms period, according to Koei Tecmo. The company also noted that Dynasty Warriors: Origins' battles will have the largest number of soldiers in the history of the series.
Dynasty Warriors M, a mobile game based on Dynasty Warriors 9, Dynasty Warriors: Origins’ direct predecessor, was released globally last November. The mobile experience, which is available on Android and iOS, was developed by the independent studio NeoBards Entertainment and published by Nexon.
