The list of Dynasty Warriors spin-offs that has grown over the years could receive a strong addition from a source that many wouldn't see coming. The series of hack-and-slash games has expanded significantly from where it started, and Dynasty Warriors has created something of a phenomenon. In fact, there are still plenty of franchises that could benefit from their own Warriors game. Many are obvious, such as Nintendo or Soul Calibur, but may not jump out at first. Ironically, one of those unlikely candidates could end up having some of the greatest potential for such a game.

There are still new Dynasty Warriors games in the making, which is a sign of the series' longevity in itself. Even so, the greater legacy of the series could be the various spin-offs that it has inspired. So far, a number of franchises have adopted Dynasty Warriors' style of powerful warriors fighting against swarms of foes, with a few tweaks for each game to make them fit with their own franchise's style. Due to their success, more are likely to come in the future. The list of spin-offs includes:

  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Dragon Quest Heroes
  • Dynasty Warriors: Gundam
  • Persona 5 Strikers
  • Fire Emblem Warriors
  • One Piece: Pirate Warriors

Disney Has Many of the Necessary Tools For a Dynasty Warriors Spin-Off of its Own

Disney is a Surprisingly Valid Option For a Dynasty Warriors Spin-Off

Now that Warriors spin-offs seem to be a mainstay, it's worth looking at other franchises that could take their turn. As it turns out, one source is unexpectedly flowing with content that could be put to use in a Warriors title. Disney has been around for over a century, and in that time, the company has released a long list of movies, including many that are still beloved to this day. These films have also given rise to plenty of iconic characters and locations that could fill a game. Disney has more than enough material to fill a Warriors title.

A Disney Warriors Game Would Have Plenty of Suitable Characters to Choose From

One may assume that Disney's catalogue is more suited for the Animal Crossing-like Disney Dreamlight Valley and other such games, but the company has plenty of battle-ready characters. The Kingdom Hearts games already show some fighting chops for Mickey, Goofy, and Donald, and the animated canon also includes potential warriors such as Mulan, Buzz Lightyear, Elsa, Maui, and Robin Hood. Expanding to include Disney's animated shows could also allow characters like Goliath, Darkwing Duck, and Eda the Owl Lady. Disney might be known for lightheared fun and magical adventures, but it has plenty of characters that would prove useful in a scrap.

Marvel and Star Wars Would be Fair Game For Disney Warriors

A Disney Warriors game would have another powerful tool at its disposal with a possible crossover with Marvel and Star Wars. With Disney having control of both franchises, characters from both could potentially make appearances. Not to mention, both Star Wars and Marvel obviously have a lot of characters that would be perfect for a hack-and-slash format. In fact, both could very well get Dynasty Warriors spin-off games of their own. Whether in their own games or in Disney Warriors, Marvel and Star Wars would be near-guaranteed assets to the total package.

Disney may be more well-suited to a Dynasty Warriors spin-off than it appears at first glance. With the fantasy RPG Kingdom Hearts 4 on the way, as well as that series' success in general, there's clearly an audience for more action-focused offerings featuring Disney characters. The company's catalog has enough solid characters to form a strong roster, as well as enough classic worlds to create a plethora of thrilling levels to fight through. Disney Warriors could easily be a dark horse as the next potential Dynasty Warriors spin-off game.

Developed by Omega Force, Dynasty Warriors started life as a Romance of the Three Kingdoms spin-off, with Chinese feudal lords and their retainers once again playing an important role in the series. Its hack and slash combat helped to popularize the Musou game genre and has led to many further spin-off games over the years.
