EA has shut down 23 games this year. The vast majority of games published by EA in the last 20 years have supported online in some capacity. Oftentimes, EA games feature online as a major focus, if not the main focus, and so whenever the servers are shut down, the games are rendered effectively dead.

Some EA games that have been shut down have lived on thanks to fan efforts, but others have remained lost to the void. Over the past year, a wide variety of EA games have been shut down, with 23 games having their servers shut down in total. Some of the EA game shutdowns definitely left a bigger hole than others, but regardless, it's always sad whenever any game is shut down.

EA Game Shutting Down on January 30

Yet another EA-published game is on the verge of having its servers shut down.

EA wasted little time in 2025 when it came to video game shutdowns, with Rory McIlroy PGA Tour shut down on January 16 and The Simpsons: Tapped Out shut down on January 24. Seven mobile games followed on January 29, but The Simpsons: Tapped Out shutting down was easily one of EA's biggest shutdowns of the year. A popular mobile game where players are able to build their own version of Springfield from The Simpsons, Tapped Out was heavily criticized for its excessive microtransactions, but it still had a dedicated community of players that grew attached to their virtual city after over a decade of playing. The Simpsons: Tapped Out shutting down triggered petitions and a great deal of demand for EA to offer some kind of offline alternative, but that didn't come to pass. Fan servers have made it possible for some players to recover their Simpsons: Tapped Out cities and continue playing, at least.

Following the EA bloodbath that was January 2025, things slowed down quite a bit. UFC 3 was shut down on February 17, while EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14 were shut down on March 13. NCAA Football 14 shutting down was especially sad since it was the last NCAA-branded game from EA with online multiplayer support, but it at least had some replacements in the form of the College Football games.

The next shutdown came in June when Madden NFL 21's online features were shuttered. Then there was nothing until October and November, when the EA shutdowns ramped up significantly. October saw NHL 21, Need for Speed: Rivals, Madden NFL 22, and FIFA 23 all shut down, with the latter marking the last FIFA-branded EA game. Four racing games shut down on November 8 with Dirt Showdown, Dirt 3, Grid Autosport, and Grid 2, and to cap that month off, EA Sports FC Empires shut down on November 30.

The last EA game shut down in 2025 was Grid (2019) on December 19. The year isn't quite over yet, so it's technically possible that EA may shut down another game unexpectedly, but that's unlikely to be the case. We do know of at least four EA games shutting down in 2026, with Anthem servers going offline on January 12, The Sims Mobile shutting down on January 24, NBA Live 19 shutting down on January 30, and Real Racing 3 shutting down on March 19. If 2025 was any indication, there will be many more EA games shut down in 2026, so fans should keep an eye out for more announcements.
