EA has confirmed that FIFA 23 servers will be shut down on December 12. EA specializes in sports games that feature real-life athletes and licensed soundtracks. While this is ideal for when the games first come out, it also means that every sports game from the company is on a timer. At some point, the games will be delisted, and their online multiplayer servers will be shut down.
It's always sad whenever a game loses significant features, effectively making it impossible to enjoy them in their intended state and keeping players from unlocking certain achievements and trophies. On the bright side, EA keeps a running list of games it is shutting down, so fans of its various titles always know well in advance whenever something is on the chopping block.
FIFA 23: Best Defensive Midfielders, Ranked
Defensive midfielders are one of the most popular roles due to their fluidity, and these are just some of the best in FIFA 23.
The list of EA games shutting down in 2025 has grown with the confirmation that FIFA 23 servers are being shut down on December 12. This revelation will no doubt disappoint FIFA fans that still enjoy the 2022 game and its special bonus content like the Ted Lasso crossover. Notably, it will also mean that there are no EA-published FIFA games available to play online, as FIFA 23 was the last game in EA's soccer series to feature the name. This fact may make FIFA 23 shutting down even more depressing than most EA game shutdowns.

EA parted ways with the FIFA license after FIFA 23. The 2023 EA soccer game was called EA Sports FC 24, and it was followed by EA Sports FC 25 in 2024. EA Sports FC 26 is expected to drop this year, maintaining EA's annual release schedule pace. While the games are effectively the same, there are still those that are nostalgic for the FIFA name and may be sad to learn that the last FIFA game from EA will be shut down on December 12.
FIFA 23 isn't the only EA-published sports game shutting down this year. Madden NFL 21 is shutting down on June 30, while Madden NFL 22 is shutting down on October 20. So far, all the other EA-published soccer games are safe from being shut down, but that could very well change in the weeks ahead. EA updates its list of games shutting down regularly, so fans should keep an eye out for further developments.
