EA Sports College Football 25 is the best-selling sports game in the United States's history, according to recent reports. It was already known that EA Sports College Football 25 was very successful, but this new information shows that the popular title continued to sell well during the year.
EA Sports College Football 25 has been, by all metrics, a huge hit. Released in July, College Football 25 managed to have over 700,000 simultaneous players before its official launch due to gamers playing the Deluxe Edition during early access. Despite not being available on last-gen consoles and PC, the title sold millions of units and carved its place among the most popular games of the year.
Why College Football 26 Will Automatically Be Facing an Uphill Battle
After College Football 25's considerable exploits, EA Sports faces a challenge to replicate its winning formula in CFB 26.
Now, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed that EA Sports College Football 25 is currently the best-selling sports video game in U.S. History, and also the best-selling game in the United States in 2024 so far, even after the release of the popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. When gathering information considering physical and digital sales during the whole year, College Football 25 still stands in first place, followed by the recent Call of Duty, and then Helldivers 2. The fourth most-sold game in the country was Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, which was followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Other notable games appearing in the Top 10 included Elden Ring and Dragon’s Dogma 2, for example.

Gamers who closely followed College Football 25 should not be surprised by the news, however. Back in October, College Football 25 was already the most-sold football game in the US ever, also according to Piscatella.
At the moment, it's not known if College Football 25 will actually end the year as the best-selling game in the country. Despite the successful release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, not even Activision's popular series has managed to overcome College Football 25. Between 2009 and 2022, the most-sold game of every year in the country was either from the Call of Duty franchise or developed by Rockstar. This only changed in 2023 with Hogwarts Legacy, and it seems that the same could happen with College Football 25 in 2024, but the information from sales during December is still not available, so that could change. It’s unknown, however, how much the release of Black Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate may have affected its sales numbers.
Mat Piscatella’s report also indicated that the PS2 is no longer the best-selling video game console of all time in the US. According to the analyst, the PS2 was recently passed by the Nintendo Switch, which sold around 46.6 million units in the country since its release, and is currently behind only the handheld Nintendo DS.
