In many ways, football is a lot like a chess match, which is why there are entire teams dedicated solely for the purposes of attacking or defending, something that you will instantly notice when playing EA Sports College Football 25. When you have an elite group of offensive players in front of you, you'll need iron will and quick thinking to overcome the challenge and turn the tide of a game in your favor.

Arguably one of the best defensive plays on the gridiron, alongside sacking the quarterback, is intercepting a pass and earning possession for your team, which is certainly worthy of celebration. While it is as simple as catching the ball, the positioning, timing, and luck required to pull it off successfully makes it a very challenging play. With this in mind, knowledge of how to intercept the ball in College Football 25 will help you get that memorable highlight for your team.

How To Intercept in College Football 25

Just because a player is in the defensive team, doesn't mean they can't make an impact on the offensive end. Experienced blockers can not only prevent a ball from reaching its intended receiver, but they can also pluck the ball out of the air for themselves. In some scenarios, a well-timed intercept can result in a long-range touchdown against the run of play, should the offensive team not be prepared for the possibility. In College Football 25, intercepting a ball requires players to press the Triangle/Y button as the ball approaches them, but to get yourself into a position to do so will require reading the offense perfectly, or being in the right place at the right time.

Tips for Successful Intercepts in College Football 25

An intercept is never really guaranteed in College Football 25. You can be in the right place at the right time and still watch the ball slip through your fingers. With that said, there are a few pointers you can keep in the back of your mind that will increase your chances of getting the pick. To give yourself the best shot at changing possession, consider the following:

  • Stay inside the receiver. If you can be a barrier between the quarterback and receiver, then you've got a better shot of picking them off. This is risky, however, as you'll need to follow their running path and make sure they don't create separation from you. Holding the X/A button will have you press, which keeps them close by.
  • Commit to a defender. This may not always work, but choosing who you think is most likely to be close to the ball can give you a slight advantage going into the play. Commit to your chosen defender and stay on the receiver they're marking.
  • Switch to the closest defender. In contrast to the previous tip, you can also opt to control the closest defender to the intended receiver. This will require some speedy reflexes, but if you press Circle/B as the quarterback throws the pass, you'll be in control of the player with the best chance of making the pick.

If you're finding little success in your attempts, you can opt for a team with higher-rated defenders, or adjust the slider settings for a gameplay experience that is better tailored to what you want to get out of College Football 25.
