Following content introduced in EA Sports FC 24/FC 25, EA Sports FC 26 is set to introduce several new improvements. This includes, but is not limited to, expanded game modes, dynamic live events, archetype system upgrades, overhauled dribbling mechanics, enhanced player positioning AI, and improved animations (specifically as they pertain to the goalkeeper). Overall, it seems EA Sports FC 26 is taking things to the next level.
As The Best War Games wrote in our first gameplay impressions of EA Sports FC 26, "This year’s game feels faster, with a pace of play that requires stronger instincts and whose AI better matches real-life teammates." We also spoke with line producer Andreas Wilsdorf and career mode design director Pete O'Donnell about what fans can expect from the upcoming title, including its release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
In a word, Wilsdorf was surprised by the Nintendo Switch 2's power. That was obviously one of the biggest selling points of the new hardware, but there is a world of difference between being told about a console's power, seeing that power working through its devkits, and experiencing a game in its truest form. The Nintendo Switch 2, Wilsdorf said, said that it was "basically" on parity with EA Sports FC 26's performance on PS5 and Xbox consoles.
Parity Between PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series Versions of the Game
In his own words, Wilsdorf explained,
"In general, the Switch 2 was really exciting. Being on the platform with FC this year, the performance is what really excites us. It is on parity, basically, with what we see on PS5 and Xbox. Again, it's a handle console, but the first time I played with it, I was really impressed. Then, we also saw it working on the simulation and the times it takes to simulate the season and so on, which was very, very close to what we saw in PlayStation and Xbox devkits. That's really impressive."
Of course, the good news here is for Nintendo Switch 2 players. The Nintendo Switch 2 recently sold roughly 6 million units, and fans who enjoy the hybrid console more than traditional ones will be able to play EA Sports FC 26 "basically" on parity with those consoles. That's an absolute huge win for fans, and luckily, the wait for it to release is not far away. EA Sports FC 26 releases on September 26.
