While the game received mixed reviews from both critics and players at launch, one of the most common complaints that came from fans was the lack of fighters in EA Sports UFC 5. Thankfully, the developers heard the complaints loud and clear and have continued to release a steady stream of free updates, adding more and more ranked fighters to the game each month. Almost two years after EA Sports UFC 5's release, EA Vancouver says the game now has nearly 98% parity with the current UFC top ten rankings.

Despite the fact that the mixed martial arts title is approaching the end of its life cycle, EA Vancouver continues to release new updates for EA Sports UFC 5. The latest one, officially known as patch 1.23, is set to be released on May 29 at 1 PM ET, the studio has confirmed. Fans can once again expect to find a brand-new fighter, as the update will add UFC Featherweight Sean Woodson to the game's roster. The 32-year-old holds a professional record of 13 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, with 7 of those wins being in the UFC. Unfortunately, Woodson's most recent bout resulted in the fighter's second loss, as he was defeated by Dan Ige in the third round at UFC 314.
The update will also include a handful of new bug fixes, including a fix for an issue causing "Did Not Finish" match results when playing online and switching user profiles. EA Vancouver has also fixed some minor clipping issues with some of EA Sports UFC 5's Alter Egos, adjusted some trunk colors displayed in the clock UI to better match the trunks worn by the fighters, and more. The full patch notes, which includes a breakdown of every change, can be found further down this article.
While EA Sports UFC 5 remains alive and well, with new updates released every few weeks, reliable insiders have suggested that EA is currently developing EA Sports UFC 6. It has been claimed that the title is in full production and is aiming for a 2025 release, which would suggest an announcement is likely imminent. New entries in the series have been released every 2 to 3 years since the original EA Sports UFC launched back in 2014, so a 2025 release for EA Sports UFC 6 would make perfect sense.
