- EA plans to return to a biennial release schedule for the UFC games, aiming for a 2025 launch for EA Sports UFC 6.
A reporter and industry insider has claimed that a new EA Sports UFC game is now in development, with a 2025 release window currently on the cards. The latest iteration of EA Sports UFC, which was the series' fifth installment, was released in October 2023 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and was the first new entry in over three years, meaning a potential 2025 release for EA Sports UFC 6 would be a quick turnaround.
When EA Sports UFC 5 was first released, it received generally favorable reviews from critics, but a rather mixed reception from fans. After waiting three years for a new entry, MMA fans were disappointed about the game's repetitive career mode and general lack of ranked UFC fighters in the game's roster. While EA Sports UFC 5's Deluxe Edition did include icons like Mike Tyson and Muhammed Ali, fans were still disappointed that these all-time greats had the same animations and movement as modern-day MMA fighters.
Overpowered EA Sports UFC 5 Champion Receives Another Stat Increase With New Alter Ego
EA Sports releases two new alter egos for UFC 5, as one dominant champion receives a massive stat boost with another 5-star rating.
Following backlash from players, EA promised an open line of communication between developers and fans, regularly deploying new updates for EA Sports UFC 5 and adding a ton of new fighters to the game's roster. However, it looks like support for the studio's current MMA title could be winding down as an insider claims that EA is now developing the series' next installment: EA Sports UFC 6. According to Insider Gaming reporter Mike Straw, who broke the news in his latest YouTube video, UFC 6 is now "in full production," the journalist said. He went on to state that the "early plan" is for the title to be released sometime in 2025.
EA Sports UFC 6 Reportedly in Development
Ever since the release of the first EA Sports UFC game back in 2014, most new installments have been released every two years. The one exception to this schedule has been EA Sports UFC 5, which had a three-year gap between it and its predecessor. Should the next EA Sports UFC game launch in 2025, that would return the series to its biennial release schedule. However, Straw did go on to state that "there's a chance [EA Sports UFC 6] doesn't come out until 2026," but reiterated that the studio's current plan is for a 2025 release.
While Straw does state that a 2026 release is possible, he noted that EA does have a desire to return to releasing new UFC titles every other year as the launch of EA Sports UFC 5 "didn't go as well." The reporter explained that the series "fell off the radar" due to the three-year gap between titles, which is why the studio is now aiming for a 2025 release for EA Sports UFC 6. When asked by a viewer if the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 could be the reason that EA Sports UFC 6 slips into 2026, Straw noted that a sports title is unlikely to shift its release date due to the next Rockstar game as they are vastly different genres.
