Summary
- FromSoftware has created pushover bosses in their games, making some fights comically easy.
- These "easy" bosses are ranked by how simple they are to defeat, revealing straightforward strategies.
- Some bosses, like Dragonrider and Ceaseless Discharge, are considered memes due to their simplistic nature despite lore.
FromSoftware is well-known for their fearsome boss fights that force players to become masters of the game in order to proceed. However, that reputation sometimes masks the fact that FromSoftware has created plenty of pushover bosses that are almost comically easy to defeat.
8 Most Loved FromSoftware Characters, Ranked
FromSoftware truly knows how to craft strangely lovable characters in its twisted worlds, and these are the best of them.
Whether it's lumbering warriors who can be pushed to their instant death, or gimmick bosses that are easy to beat once their trick is revealed, there are loads of easy FromSoftware bosses. This list is ranked purely by how easy each boss is to beat.
8 Dragonrider
Not Much Of A Diver
Dark Souls 2
- Released
- March 11, 2014
- ESRB
- T for Teen: Blood and Gore, Mild Language, Partial Nudity, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Action RPG
Dark Souls 2 has something of a divisive reputation in the community, in part because mainstay director Miyazaki did not direct it, but also because the hitboxes are infamously janky and the strangely obtuse Adaptability stat is deceptively important to succeeding in combat. It's a hard game, no doubt about it.
However, if done correctly, one of the first bosses players come across is a pushover. The Dragonrider is a fearsome armored knight, but if players simply bait his attacks correctly near the edge of his arena, he can go flying into the water, instantly killing himself. It makes a tough fight comically easy and is now the go-to strategy in the fan community to deal with him.
7 Moonlight Butterfly
Lunar Beauty
Dark Souls Remastered
- Released
- May 23, 2018
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ Due To Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Action RPG
Every so often, the Dark Souls games intermingle a bit of transcendent beauty to offset the consistently grim visuals that dominate the world. Yet, in classic FromSoftware fashion, beauty rarely comes without a cost attached.
Such is the case with the Moonlight Butterfly, a beautiful (but frankly unusual) optional boss fight in Dark Souls, which is very easy to defeat. Players need to dodge highly telegraphed attacks and simply wait for the Butterfly to perch on the wall, where they can lay into it, killing the beautiful beast quickly.
6 Prowling Magus And Congregation
Time To Go To Church
- From Dark Souls 2
While Dark Souls 2 has acquired many defenders since its release, many of whom are actively trying to rehabilitate the game's reputation, it's hard to deny that some boss design moments just weren't the greatest idea, and the Prowling Magus and Congregation is one of the worst examples.
Players are put into a bare room with squishy nuns, congregation members, and a Magus. It looks intimidating, but they all go down very easily, and by simply trailing them around the room, the fight becomes a simple matter of patience.
5 Ceaseless Discharge
An Ill-Advised Name
- From Dark Souls
Ceaseless Discharge has become a bit of a joke in the fan community, not simply due to his truly revolting name, but because, despite his tragic backstory and fearsome visage, he is extraordinarily easy to beat once players know the trick.
16 Soulslike Games Easier Than Dark Souls
Dark Souls is a classic, but notoriously difficult game. For gamers who want something more forgiving, these similar titles are great choices.
The great lumbering magma titan can only attack with highly telegraphed swings of his arms, which, when avoided, lie vulnerable in the arena for the player to slash. In fact, when players first trigger the fight, if they run back towards the boss arena's entrance, they can bait the Ceaseless Discharge into a leaping attack that will almost always miss, sending the boss falling to its death in the lava below. He goes down easy, is easily countered, and is considered a bit of a meme boss, which is a shame considering his genuinely tragic lore.
4 Fool's Idol
Illusory Force
Demon's Souls
- Released
- November 12, 2020
- ESRB
- M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- RPG
Demon's Souls was the first Soulslike game, and naturally, FromSoftware's first foray into the subgenre that they helped create, so it's natural that not all the kinks had been ironed out just yet. Several bosses in Demon's Souls show that the studio had a lot to learn in terms of boss design.
This is never more true than with Fool's Idol, an initially intimidating boss fighting in a beautiful chapel, which becomes incredibly easy once players can consistently identify which of the mimics is the real idol. It's just a matter of running her down and attacking fast before she falls.
3 Covetous Demon
The Big Slug
- From Dark Souls 2
The poor Covetous Demon. Of all the bosses in all FromSoftware games, Covetous Demon has become one of the biggest jokes, and not just because of his admittedly goofy design that makes the fearsome demon look almost adorable, a stark contrast to the series' track record with terrifying demon bosses.
Players must keep a wide berth from the Covetous Demon as it writhes on the ground, taking their time to seize the advantage of its massive vulnerability windows, and bringing the seemingly fearsome Covetous Demon down with very few issues. At least the big guy tried.
2 Witch Of Hemwick
Invisible Problems
Bloodborne
- Released
- March 24, 2015
To their credit, FromSoftware has increasingly leaned away from gimmick bosses, where players need to find a simple solution to make a boss fight trivial. They're generally unpopular, and the bosses become pushovers in replays, which is exactly the issue with the Witch of Hemwick.
The 26 Most Powerful Bosses In Bloodborne
Bloodborne, like any of the Soulsborne games, features a strong lineup of incredibly powerful bosses. These are the toughest of the bunch.
This eye-covered crone and her duplicates turn invisible and skulk around their boss arena, simply waiting for the players to fall into their clutches. Once players know about the boss' invisiblity trick, it becomes very easy to defeat, making them a total pushover and the butt of a lot of the community's jokes.
1 Soldier Of Godrick
Joe Schmoe
Elden Ring
- Released
- February 25, 2022
Elden Ring, undoubtedly, has some of the toughest bosses in all FromSoftware games. Not only that, but it also boasts the largest roster of bosses of any of their games, even without the massive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. In all those hundreds of bosses, one, above all others, is the easiest boss fight FromSoftware has ever made.
Poor Soldier of Godrick. In a first for FromSoftware, they included a brief tutorial section with this guy at the end. He's essentially a glorified field mob placed into a tutorial dungeon, and he goes down in a couple of hits. He's easy enough that even beginners can take him down, and it's hard to imagine how FromSoftware could make an easier boss if they tried.
7 Most Ambitious Games By FromSoftware, Ranked
FromSoftware has been the source of some truly groundbreaking games, but these particular examples are arguably the most ambitious.
