The official first synopsis and cast list for Marvel Studios' upcoming miniseries Echo have recently been released. However, some of the actors who fans suspected to be on the cast list are missing, particularly Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin.
Marvel Studios announced production for Echo has recently begun in Atlanta, and the show is set to give a deeper look inside the origin story of the character Echo, who made her debut in Marvel Studios' other miniseries Hawkeye last year. With its Disney Plus exclusive release scheduled for 2023, Echo is confirmed to be directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie.
The series executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Stephen Broussard, Richie Palmer, Marion Dayre and Jason Gavin (Blackfeet), alongside co-executive producers Amy Rardin, Sydney Freeland, Christina King (Seminole) and Jennifer Booth. The series is also set to star Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's second Deaf superhero character, with the first character being Lauren Ridloff's Makari, who appeared last year in Marvel Studios' Celestial origin story Eternals. According to the official synopsis, Echo is set to revisit the story of Maya Lopez, as her vengeful actions from Hawkeye follow her all the way back to her hometown. As she faces her past, she reconnects with her Native American heritage and learns the truths about family and community, in hopes of being able to move forward from everything she's experienced.
Echo is also set to star Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, and Zahn McClarnon. With many actors confirmed to appear in the series, fans noticed two names missing from the lengthy cast list. The first name not attached to the series was Cox's character Daredevil, who was rumored to appear in the upcoming series because the characters have strong connections within the Echo comics. The other name missing was Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, who appeared alongside Echo throughout the Hawkeye series. Considering the bad blood and comic history between the Echo and Kingpin, D'Onofrio's name missing from the cast list came as an even bigger surprise to fans.
Despite these big characters' names missing from the cast list, leaving integral names off of the cast list of shows and movies is very common. This was done with the Hawkeye series, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Avengers: Endgame, so the chances these major characters will pop up in the Echo series when it's released isn’t completely out the window. With this being one of the first pieces of official information (besides the show's first images) fans have received about Marvel Studios' Echo, and with a year between now and the series' official release, it's fair to say that these names could be attached at a later date, or they may just be kept under wraps completely to make the guest appearances even more special when the show hits Disney Plusnext year.
Echo is scheduled to premiere on Disney Pus in 2023.
