A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Konami's eFootball is reportedly in development, with a reference to the hybrid console uncovered in the latest version of the game. The purported port would mark a major shift for the long-running series, which has historically seen limited releases on Nintendo hardware.

Originally known as Winning Eleven and Pro Evolution Soccer, Konami's football sim franchise has been running since 1996. In 2021, the Japanese gaming giant renamed PES to eFootball and transitioned the series to a free-to-play model, citing a need to reach newer audiences by emphasizing online play. Despite being one of the best-selling consoles of all time, the Switch did not receive a single entry in the football franchise.

Nintendo Switch 2 Codename Mentioned in Latest eFootball Version

The series' long absence from Nintendo hardware may finally be coming to an end, according to dataminer and Twitter user Durandil67. While digging through the latest version of eFootball, released as part of the 2026 Season update on August 14, Durandil67 realized that the game's platform enum (a predefined list of values) now includes an entry that wasn't there in the preceding build. The value, labeled "NOZ," is likely a reference to the Nintendo Switch 2 codename, Ounce ("oz" is an abbreviation for ounce, the unit of measurement), which originally leaked back in October 2024 and has since been confirmed through various other datamining efforts.

Konami Once Also Considered Porting eFootball Mobile to Nintendo Switch 1

The same enum contains another value, "NSW," which could be a reference to the first Nintendo Switch. Since eFootball was never ported to the 2017 device, the chances of that happening now that the console is in its twilight years appear slim, with the enum thus merely suggesting this was once being considered. The NSW label has the same "AM" prefix used for the iOS and Android versions of eFootball, which most likely stands for "application mobile." This would imply that had the Switch port ever materialized, it would have been based on the mobile version of the game rather than its console counterparts.

Conversely, the NOZ reference is prefixed with "CS," which appears to stand for "console." Should eFootball indeed make its way to the Switch 2, the label implies it will be on par with other console versions, at least feature- and content-wise. Konami has already established itself as an early supporter of Nintendo's new console, having published one of the select few Switch 2 launch exclusives, a co-op survival game Survival Kids.

PES Has Been Missing From Nintendo Consoles for Over a Decade

A Switch 2 version of eFootball would mark the series' return to Nintendo hardware after more than a decade. The latest installment that made its way to a Nintendo device was PES 2014, which received an exclusive version for the 3DS. Earlier, the DS saw unique handheld editions of PES 6 and PES 2008. Apart from the potential port of eFootball, soccer fans looking for a proper portable gaming experience have the Switch 2 version of EA Sports FC 26 to look forward to. EA's upcoming title is scheduled for release on September 26.
