The first supposed brick wall that players will face in Elden Ring is Margit, the Fell Omen, just waiting to ambush some poor ambitious fool just outside Stormveil Castle. Players will soon realize that they'll need more levels one way or another if they are to defeat Margit without much frustration.

Elden Ring: 10 Most Frustrating Bosses, Ranked

There are a total of 238 bosses in Elden Ring and its DLC combined, and while some make for fantastic battles, others simply cause frustration.

To do that, some grinding and Rune farming are necessary to purchase some levels from Melina. Thankfully, Limgrave has plenty of farming spots that are both accessible and yield decent amounts of Runes. Head on over to these locations and follow the instructions.

Updated on August 5, 2024, by Mehrdad Khayyat: Farming Runes is still an important part of the gameplay loop in Elden Ring, and primarily the only easy hack to level up the character skills before venturing forth to the difficult regions of the game.

As a starting location, Limgrave offers a decent variety of optional bosses along with valuable loot. The region is also home to some easy-to-kill enemies that grant a decent amount of Runes. So, if anyone finds it difficult to beat Margit, The Fell Omen, or Godrick, The Grafted, there are some decent Rune farms in Limgrave to level up and return to the same fights stronger.

Quick List Of Farming Locations

Need some fast Runes ASAP in Elden Ring? Then this summary of the best places to farm Runes in Limgrave ought to help:

  • Agheel Lake (Don't Kill The Dragon)
  • Outside The Third Church Of Marika
  • Castle Morne Grounds
  • Castle Morne Ramparts
  • Gatefront Ruins Site Of Grace
  • Troll Caravan Near Waypoint Ruins
  • South Of Warmaster's Shack

7 Agheel Lake (Don't Kill The Dragon)

Up To 600 Runes Per Each Try

Now for some big-brain risky moves. Those who have ventured a bit into Agheel Lake will have been dissuaded by the nasty dragon who wants to use them as a landing pad. This inopportune moment can be turned into an advantage; players simply need to lure the dragon, Agheel, into crabs and other enemies within the lake.

Elden Ring: Best Weapons Against Dragons

When facing off against a dragon in Elden Ring, the following weapons will become a player's best friend.

This way, Agheel will be doing all the farming for the players. Any attack the dragon does has friendly fire (no pun intended) and will damage all the smaller enemies. The hard part is trying to dodge all the flame and those pesky ranged attacks from crabs but that should be manageable with Torrent.

6 Outside The Third Church Of Marika

1K Runes Per Each Try

The third Church of Marika is located in Western Limgrave just north of the Mistwood Ruins. It's a rather peaceful spot except for a lone troll walking around near the entrance of the ruined church. It just so happens that these trolls give 1,000 Runes per kill.

So, players need to simply walk out of the Third Church of Marika Site of Grace and kill the troll. Rinse and repeat until the desired number of Runes or levels are achieved. There are higher-yield farming spots but this one is low-risk and is also great for practicing how to dodge or how to fight while mounted.

5 Castle Morne Grounds

Up To 1.5K Runes Per Each Try

Inside Castle Morne, there's a pack of Demi-Human and Misbegotten enemies celebrating their rebellion's victory in the castle grounds just after the elevator. There are several of them on a hill of rubble and there are also some rabid dogs nearby and a Pumpkin Head enemy at the far end.

Elden Ring: 14 Bosses That Should Have Been Harder

There are many difficult bosses in Elden Ring, but some should have been far more challenging than they were.

For a faster clearing operation, summon some Spirits and charge at these heathens. Players don't even need to fight the Pumpkin Head as he's too far away to join. Killing those Misbegotten enemies over and over again in an epic AI battle is always a fun spectacle and an enjoyable Rune farming method.

4 Castle Morne Ramparts

Up To 2K Runes Per Each Try

After clearing the Castle Morne grounds, players have two choices here: go past the Pumpkin Head enemy or turn right before that enemy. Either option will lead to the Castle Morne Ramparts. Once on top of the walls, explore the battlements a bit and look for Castle Morne soldiers fighting the Misbegotten or Demi-Human enemies.

Much like the Weeping Peninsula battleground, each death here from either side will grant the player some Runes. There are quite a lot of them fighting on the walls. Players can also join in and take out the flyers while they're busy. Profiteering off of war isn't exactly ethical but Melina needs that sugar — sorry, Runes.

3 Gatefront Ruins Site Of Grace

Up To 2K Runes Per Each Try

The spot where Melina first talks to the players (usually the Gatefront Ruins Site of Grace) is also one of the best early areas for farming some Runes. Because nearly every direction the players go there can lead to clusters of enemies. To the west, just past the Stormgate, there's a giant and several foot soldiers just waiting.

Players can lure out the giant first for a one-on-one and deal with the soldiers later. To the east is the Gatefront Ruins encampment full of lowly soldiers and wolves along with one tough knight (who can be avoided altogether). Both of these potential farming spots are just a few meters away from the Site of Grace; players can simply walk back to safety and rest if things go awry.

2 Troll Caravan Near Waypoint Ruins

Up To 3K Runes Per Each Try

To the southeast of Gatefront Ruins, along the road, there should be a bridge. Players can cross that bridge and keep going until they see two trolls pulling a large black caravan. Tailing the troll caravan is one Kaiden horseman and several commoner enemies and foot soldiers who easily die in one to two hits.

6 Elden Ring Rare Items That Are Easy To Miss Featured Image
Elden Ring: Rare Items That Are Easy To Miss

With how many items there are in Elden Ring and its DLC, players are bound to miss out on some of the rare things in FromSoftware's masterpiece.

Players don't even need to engage the regular-sized enemies at the back of the caravan. Attacking the two trolls will stop the caravan and the players will be free to poke at the trolls without interruption from the rest of the caravan (assuming they stay at the front). The best part is that these trolls are weakened by their chains and can't do much to retaliate apart from the usual stomp. That's an easy 2,000 Runes. Killing the caravan guards will add 1,000 extra Runes to the total earnings. Just rinse and repeat.

1 South Of Warmaster's Shack Site of Grace

Up To 4K Runes Per Each Try

Speaking of more trolls, Stormhill is a lovely area full of those walking behemoths. One area, specifically south of Warmaster's Shack, has five of these trolls standing near a cliff. They're also evenly spaced out so players don't need to fight multiple trolls all at the same time — though doing that is faster but riskier.

Simply lure each one with a throwable knife and fight them one by one. That's 5,000 Runes; conveniently enough, Warmaster's Shack is nearby and has a Site of Grace. A word of warning: don't farm these five trolls at night; a Deathbird boss will appear and it's a rather tough fight for new players.
