Black Knight Captain Huw Ashes – Summon Cost & Tips
The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Second to their first Knight-Commander was Huw, a man with agile command of both twinblade techniques and the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells. Though a champion of the divine beast hunt, he followed his father, Andreas, into rebellion against Messmer, and like his father, he too was imprisoned in an underground tomb. Messmer mourned the loss of a brother-in-arms.
The
Black Knight Captain Huw Ashes is a new Spirit Ash in Shadow of the Erdtree that summons a single Black Knight. You might have faced countless of them throughout your exploration in the Realm of Shadow, so you should know how much of a pain it is to deal with them.
This Spirit Ash is aggressive and can deal a lot of damage to a boss. He also uses the Aspects of the Crucible: Wings, an Ash of War that allows him to evade attacks and leap down from the air, spinning the Twinblade. Compared to
Black Knight Commander Andreas, who makes use of a great shield, Captain Huw is a better option because of his aggressive nature and survivability.

Fire Knight Hilde is a Spirit Ash exclusive to the Elden Ring DLC. It's a tanky companion that does decent damage, but finding it can be a bit tricky.
The Black Knight Captain Huw Ashes can be upgraded to +10 with Ghost Glovewort. In Shadow of the Erdtree, the offensive and defensive capabilities of these Spirit Ashes can be upgraded using

Where To Find Black Knight Captain Huw Ashes Location
To get
Black Knight Captain Huw in Shadow of the Erdtree, you must reach Scorpion River Catacombs located west of Rauh Ancient Ruins. To do this, you will need to reach the bottom side of the Ruins by accessing the secret cave path northeast of Moorth Ruins. Follow the path until you reach the Temple Town Ruins. From there, head north into the Ravine, and you will eventually reach the entrance of the Catacombs.
Inside the catacombs, take the first left down the staircase and go straight past the stone bridge. Go down the staircase and head left to go down another staircase. Follow along the path ahead to reach a room where an Imp will be hurling fireballs at you. Run past it and head straight, but do not go through the small passage in front of you. Instead, head right down the staircase.
Be careful in the next room. As you go down the staircase, a giant trap will come down from the ceiling, which can kill you instantly.
Take one step and turn back, making the trap come down, allowing you to go to the small space on the right to wait out the trap again. Once the trap starts to go up, run ahead, but be careful, as there is one more trap before the end of the room. Wait out the trap and proceed forward once it starts to go up. There will be a few enemies here that you have to deal with before interacting with the item up ahead. Loot the item to acquire the Black Knight Captain Huw Spirit Ashes.
