A Reddit user has noted that the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree trailer suggests the new DLC location is in the sky and it's inverted. As Elden Ring players eagerly await the June release of the long-anticipated and only DLC, one observant fan has analyzed Bandai Namco's teaser and discovered that the new setting might hold more surprises than expected.
Elden Ring’s DLC will be released on June 21 for all platforms, and the developers have stated this will be the game's only post-release content. As such, the new area in Shadow of the Erdtree has new enemies and is promised to be vast, exciting all Soulslike fans. Despite sharing these broad details, FromSoftware has kept the lore and layout of the Lands of Shadow under wraps. However, one Reddit user believes they have deciphered the secrets of this new setting.
In a viral Reddit post, user George2J shared several screenshots from the Shadow of the Erdtree teaser trailer, claiming the new location will be upside-down, linking the Lands Between to the Land of Shadow. To support their theory, they point out the absence of stars in the sky of the new biome, suggesting it faces the Lands Between, not the actual sky. Additionally, there's a brief shot of a boss resembling the man in The Carian Inverted Statue from the base game, a figure known for his connections to inverting worlds and unlocking one of Elden Ring’s hidden locations.
Is The Land of Shadow in the Sky and Upside Down?
George2J offers several other reasons for believing the new biome must be floating and inverted. Besides the absence of stars and the Carian Inverted Statue details, they point to symbols on the Erdtree’s doorway that depict two linked trees. This might indicate the tree in the Land of Shadow touching the one in the Lands Between. They also suggest this joint area is where the player will find Miquella's cocoon. One thing they don't mention in their Reddit post is the new location’s name: The Land of Shadow. If their theory is correct, this name implies that this land never sees sunlight, like the dark side of the moon, always shrouded in shadows.
Of course, other users have raised points against this theory. Some fans suggest that the Erdtree’s symbols could be read chronologically, indicating the order of events rather than the physical location of the trees. Others argue that if there is a large area above the sea in Elden Ring’s The Lands Between, it should cast a shadow on the ground, making the sky pitch black with no stars.
