The character progression system in Elden Ring revolves around leveling up stats with the help of runes. Increasing stats becomes a necessity, as the Tarnished moves on to difficult bosses and players want to try out new types of equipment. While beating the game is not impossible at level 1, only veterans are known to attempt such a sort of challenge in the soulsborne realm.

Regular players are always in need of runes to level up their favorite stats. While bosses in Elden Ring do drop a decent number of runes, after a certain point, a single boss will amount to only a few increases in levels. For this reason, rune farming is a popular trend among the community, and players have discovered many wonderful rune farming spots.

There are two amazing rune farm spots in the Mohgwyn Palace, but one of them requires the weapon reward from the final boss to be a worthwhile farm. The second spot involves abusing a giant bird’s AI to make it fall to its death and earn some free runes. Given the high scaling of the Mohgwyn Palace area, players can net themselves a decent amount of runes by farming the bird Mohgwyn Palace. Continue reading this guide to find out the bird's location and how to do it.

How to Farm the Bird at Mohgwyn Palace

Elden Ring - Mohgwyn Palace map

Mohgwyn Palace is a sub-area located in the subterranean Siofra River region. While players can get to Siofra River quite early in their playthrough, Mohgwyn Palace remains inaccessible until they progress Varre’s questline or reach the Consecrated Snowfield, where a waypoint teleporter to Mohg’s dynasty exists.

After reaching Mohgwyn Palace, head to the Palace Approach Ledge-Road site of grace, located on the far eastern side. If you use the teleporter in Consecrated Snowfield, you'll spawn close to this grace site. However, if you have progressed Varre’s questline, you will have to journey through the lake of blood to reach it. Along the way, numerous albinaurics can be spotted on the path. Once you obtain the Sacred Relic Sword, you can farm these albinaurics using the weapon’s skill Wave of Gold. But for those without the weapon, there’s a farming spot right next to the Palace Approach Ledge-Road site of grace.

Cheesing the Mohgwyn Palace Bird

Some Archery Required

To perform this trick, you will need a bow and lots of arrows. Both are easy to get and only need a handful of runes. You can purchase a Longbow from the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold, and an unlimited number of arrows from Merchant Kale in Church of Elleh, Limgrave. After obtaining bow and arrows, head to the Palace Approach Ledge-Road site of grace.

From here, go to the edge of the cliff on the west side. From there, you can spot a giant bloody bird roaming in the blood-filled lake. Equip the bow and aim at the bird and fire the arrow. Once it hits, the bird will start running in your direction and fall off the cliff. If it doesn’t fall down the cliff, you might need to roll back a couple times to make it fall.

After the bird falls, you will be rewarded with around 11,000 runes. Then, rest at the site of grace to respawn the bird. Rinse and repeat until you are satisfied with the number of runes. Players can also equip the Golden Scarab talisman to boost rune acquisition by 20% and eat a Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot to boost it further by 30%.
