Summary
- Elden Ring bosses are challenging, with quick movements and devastating attacks.
- The game offers various weapons and armor to help players face the fastest bosses.
- Some bosses like Malenia and Commander Niall are notably difficult and require strategy to defeat.
Elden Ring is well known for being a very challenging game. Not only does exploring The Lands Between present an obstacle at every turn, but the bosses that players will have to defeat to progress through their story will also put them to the test. On top of this, many achievements in the game are challenging.
Elden Ring: Great Weapons For The Early Game
Choosing the right weapon is essential in a game like Elden Ring. These are some of the best options for players just starting out.
To face these challenges, players will have various helmets, armor, and weapons at their disposal. These will come in handy when fighting against some of the quickest bosses in the game, which often leave little opportunity to strike. Here are some of the fastest bosses in Elden Ring.
7 Black Blade Kindred
Quick Movement And Devastating Blows
- Wide attacks
- Challenging if faced early on
The Black Blade Kindred is arguably one of the hardest field bosses that players will encounter during the early-to-mid stages of the game. This boss has relentless attacks, a high damage output, and an overall quick moveset that will put most Tarnished to the test.
Since the Black Blade Kindred is optional, players can level up, get some of the best weapon skills and come back later, which can make this formidable foe easier to defeat, but it will never be downright simple. All in all, while not the fastest boss in the game, the Black Blade Kindred is a force to be reckoned with.
6 Divine Beast Dancing Lion
Hard To Hit Sometimes Due To Its Speed
- Deadly lightning attacks
- Using a Bleed build can go a long way against this enemy
While the base game has some formidable foes for players to defeat, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC introduced even more obstacles, and one of them is the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. This is one of the first bosses that players will encounter in the DLC, and while it doesn't have the largest health pool, it can move rather fast and has some dangerous AoE lightning attacks.
Elden Ring: 14 Things To Do First
Elden Ring can be a massive game for players to jump into; here are some things to do first to give you a good start.
If players manage to land a few hits on the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, it's not too challenging to defeat. However, given how fast it moves through the boss arena, this can be easier said than done. Using a Bleed build with some of the best blood weapons in Elden Ring can make this fight considerably shorter.
5 Commander Niall
Lightning-fast Kicks and Sweep Attacks
- He summons two spirit knights to help him in the fight
- Quick attacks and deadly blows
Continuing with bosses that are optional but should be defeated to unlock every possible area and boss battle in the game, there's Commander Niall. This absolute powerhouse of a boss can be found inside Castle Sol and must be defeated to unlock the left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which is necessary to operate the Grand Lift of Rold and reach Miquella’s Haligtree.
One of the things that make the fight against Commander Niall so challenging, is that before players can even start hitting him, they'll have to deal with the two spirit knights that he summons to help him. Given his damage output and sheer speed, Commander Niall is arguably one of the hardest bosses to parry in Elden Ring.
4 Malenia
Powerful Combos And The Waterfowl Dance Move Is Hard To Dodge
- The Waterfowl Dance is a merciless killing move
- Malenia recovers health with every hit she lands on the Tarnished
Any player who's completed Elden Ring knows about Malenia and her fame for being one of the hardest bosses in The Lands Between and The Land of Shadow and probably the hardest one in the base game. Not only does she have a very quick attack move set, but she also recovers health with every hit she lands on the Tarnished.
On top of this, she has the deadly Waterfowl Dance move, which is extremely difficult to dodge and can kill players in a single shot. If players want a challenge and make their playthrough as hard as possible, it's recommended to face Malenia without Spirit Ashes, and with the least amount of gear possible.
3 Malekith
Relentless And Extremely Aggressive
- Some of his attacks require the Blasphemous Claw to be parried
- Can move very quickly across his arena
Malekith, the Black Blade is very challenging for many reasons. For starters, his first phase leads many players to underestimate the true challenge that they're about to face once half his health is gone. Moreover, as opposed to other bosses, some of Maliketh's attacks cannot be parrried normally, and the Blasphemous Claw is required to do so.
On top of all this, he can deal a massive amount of damage and usually jumps all over his arena with ease and lightning-fast speed. With the right weapons and some solid beginner tips, players will be ready to face Maliketh when they encounter him, but the battle will still put them to the test.
2 Hoarah Loux
His Grapple Attacks Are Deadly And Hard To Dodge
- Godfrey's second phase has a notable speed increase
- Hoarah Loux turns to his fists to fight
While there's no denying that Godfrey, the First Elden Lord's first phase is also quite challenging, it pales in comparison to his second one, Hoarah Loux. During the second phase, this formidable boss will increase his attack speed considerably, forgoing his trusty axe and turning to fists and rage instead.
Elden Ring: 7 Slowest Bosses, Ranked
Elden Ring has tons of challenging bosses with swift attacks, but this isn't always the case. Here are the slowest bosses in the game.
Hoarah Loux has some deadly grapple attacks that he can combine with AoE moves that will put even the most advanced players to the test. This boss’ speed is quite surprising, as given his sheer size, moving that quickly shouldn’t be possible.
1 Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
Getting A Hit In Is Quite The Challenge
- She leaves little window of opportunity to attack
- Deadly attack pattern that becomes more aggressive as the fight progresses
Lastly, there's Rellana, who made her debut in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. As a member of the Carian Royal family, Rellana has a proud lineage and a family history that’s troublesome to say the least.
While she's not the most powerful boss in the DLC, her attacks are swift and relentless, allowing for little to no window of opportunity to strike her. This only gets worse in the second phase, where she becomes even more aggressive and starts using additional attacks—many of which are hard to dodge.
