Greatswords are one of the best weapon types in Elden Ring. The only problem players may face with this weapon type, is picking just one from the overwhelming variety on offer. Players looking to break free of the same old weapons will find several options here. While many greatswords perform well in specific situations, there are a select few – like Ordovis's Greatsword that work well no matter what is thrown at them. This guide will show players how to get Ordovis's Greatsword in Elden Ring, and explain why it is such a great choice.

Where to Find Ordovis's Greatsword in Elden Ring

To get Ordovis's Greatsword in Elden Ring, players will first have to make their way to Leyndell, Royal Capital. After reaching the Altus Plateau, you can simply ride east at any time. Your goal will be Auriza Hero's Grave, just outside the city.

How to Reach Auriza Hero's Grave:

To reach this location, use the following directions:

  • Starting from the Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace, head northeast along the main road until you reach the second phantom tree. If it's your first time in the area, you will encounter a Valiant Gargoyle about halfway up the path. There will also be two Golden Seeds at each location.
  • From the second phantom tree, head north along the main path. Again, if it's your first time here, you'll encounter a projection of Margit/Mrogott. At first, it will appear as a commoner standing along the side of the path. As you pass, it will turn into a copy of the Fell Omen. Defeat it to earn the Viridian Amber Medallion +1, or simply ride past.
  • You do not want to ride all the way out of the city limits. As you ride through the camp, look northeast to find a staircase cut out of the rock wall. You can see its location on the map. Take that path until it splits, just before the depiction of the lesser Erdtree on the map.
  • At the fork, you want to take the southern path. Watch for multiple bow-wielding golems as you enter the clearing.
  • On the lower path, you'll come to a lake. Ride east, and you'll eventually come to a slim canyon. Ride through the canyon and when you emerge, Auriza Hero's Grave will be on the right.

Once you enter Auriza Hero's Grave, you'll notice the layout is very similar to other 'grave' type locations in Elden Ring. You'll have to navigate the linear path while a chariot tries to run you down. Ordovis's Greatsword is the reward you'll receive for defeating the bosses of Auriza Hero's Grave: Crucible Knight & Crucible Knight Ordovis. To reach the boss's chamber, follow these steps:

  • Make your way down the first slope until you reach the small bridge just after the light.
  • Fall off the bridge to the right or the left. Watch for Basilisks. Head out the west exit.
  • There will be two more Basilisks in the next chamber. Turn north and head out, but be careful as you reach the end. The chariot will be coming overhead.
  • There will be two chariots here; one going up, and one going down. You'll need to switch from side to side as the chariots pass each other. There is one safe alcove on the left. Your goal is to reach the end of this slop, and make your way up the small slope at the end. You can make your way through and destroy the chariots first, but it is possible to reach the boss's chamber without doing so. There is a small alcove on the right side of the final slope.
  • The boss chamber will be behind the door at the top of the small slope.

How to Defeat the Crucible Knight and Crucible Knight Ordovis:

This can be a very tough fight, especially if you are under-leveled. The basic Crucible Knight is the type that uses a long spear with antler-type hooks at the end. This weapon has an incredibly long range, and will hit you even when you think you've created enough distance. It will chase you down, hardly giving you any space to heal. And that is only one of the enemies. Crucible Knight Ordovis uses Ordovis's Greatsword. It is extremely punishing in the hands of Ordovis. Because of this, using a Spirit Summon is recommended for all except the most proficient players.

Using a spirit summon will allow you to focus on one of the enemies at a time, making the fight significantly easier. Crucible Knights are still tough one on one. They both have the typical Crucible Knight transformation. Players who are proficient with parry can use it against both enemies, though it is far easier with Ordovis. The spear is much harder to time. Both enemies can be stance-broken, so dual greatswords can be very powerful, especially when paired with the Claw Talisman.

Whats The Most Underrated Weapon In Elden Ring?

There's something really satisfying about playing a build completely focused on Parrying, and especially if you can figure out how to reliably Parry with small, fast weapons like the Dagger or Claw weapons. It requires a lot of skill and a great sense of timing, but the feeling of slapping an enemy's weapon out of your way and getting critical hits back-to-back is about as good as it gets.

Description: Greatsword of Ordovis, one of two honored as foremost among the Crucible Knights. This sword is imbued with an ancient holy essence. Its red tint exemplifies the nature of primordial gold, said to be close in nature to life itself.

Ordovis's Greatsword Weapon Skill: Ordovis's Vortex:

Ordovis's Greatsword's weapon skill in Elden Ring is called Ordovis's Vortex Skill. This skill has an FP cost of 12, and can be charged to increase its power. It does not have a followup attack.

Skill Description: Channel the power of the crucible to spin the entire sword in midair, building momentum before slamming the blade down onto the ground.

Ordovis's Weapon is a greatsword that features holy damage. This damage type, despite not having the visual appeal of fire or frost, works extremely well during exploration, as well as many of the games' bosses. Because it scales incredibly well with Strength and Faith, it works extremely well in any type of Golden Order or Erdtree Knight build. Unfortunately, it does not stop Skeleton-type enemies from resurrecting, like the Golden Order Greatsword or Golden Epitaph, but this is really its only flaw as a holy-damage weapon. Elden Ring faith-build players bored with the same-old Blasphemous Blade will be hard-pressed to find a better greatsword for all-around combat.
