FromSoftware is arguably one of the best studios when it comes to designing terrifying, challenging enemies to put players' skills to the test. While traveling the Lands Between in Elden Ring, players will often encounter a large variety of bosses, ranging from human-sized monsters, like Leonine Misbegotten, to dragons and giants taller than a skyscraper.

Sometimes, larger enemies aren't too difficult, as they have slower movesets and their attacks are a bit more telegraphed. However, their sheer size plays a huge psychological role when fighting them, making them feel more daunting than they already are. Here are the largest bosses in Elden Ring.

7 Dragonlord Placidusax

Taking the first spot is this mighty creature that can be found in the depths of Crumbling Farum Azula. With its large wingspan, swift claw, lightning sweeps, and wide AoE attacks, Dragonlord Placidusax is no pushover. Reminiscent of a Hydra, this large dragon with two heads has existed since the reign of Queen Marika.

While this boss is completely optional, it's strongly encouraged to face it. The fight is not only visually stunning, but it's also a great experience to fight such a massive dragon in its epic arena. Standing at 43 feet tall, Dragonlord Placidusax is one of the largest bosses in Elden Ring.

6 Astel, Naturalborn Of The Void

Much like a horrid butterfly that evolves from a deadly caterpillar, Astel is the final form attained by Fallingstar Beasts when they're fully grown. And standing at a formidable 69 feet, it's safe to say that players will need a huge can of bug spray to deal with this particular pest.

Humanoid dragons have been a key part of Soulsborne games for over a decade, and Elden Ring is not the exception. In the game's lore, it's possible for humans to become dragons through a series of complex processes and incantations. However, the results are often botched, leaving those who try it disfigured and stuck in a hybrid form.

The Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella is a great example of this. It has certain dragon characteristics, yet still holds many humanoid ones as well. It is located in the depths of the Ainsel River, standing at approximately 73 feet tall.

Few bosses in Elden Ring can evoke both fear and disgust at the same time, and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy is one of them. The son of Radagon and Queen Rennala of the Full Moon, this nightmarish demi-god inhabits Volcano Manor, near Mt. Gelmir. His body is that of a giant snake, and only after entering Phase 2 is his true face revealed.

While Rykard is completely optional, he is one of the five shardbearers in the game. In order to enter Leyndell, Royal Capital, players must defeat at least two shardbearers. So, for those looking for a challenge from a boss with outstanding voice acting, Rykard's boss fight is a must.

3 Elden Beast

As t he final boss in Elden Ring, it makes sense that the Elden Beast is not only challenging, but also massive. Its visually stunning starry night body, along with its beautiful, yet deadly moveset make for a heart-racing, entertaining face off against the vassal of the Greater Will. This huge boss stands at 85 feet.

Players who have already faced this boss know how lethal the beast's Elden Stars spell is, and how hard-hitting some of its other attacks can be. The issue with this boss is not predicting its attacks, but rather managing to dodge them while staying out of its range and avoiding incoming projectiles.

2 Fire Giant

The Fire Giant boss fight is one of the most controversial late-game skill checks in Elden Ring, as it forces players to adapt their play style to defeat this enormous enemy with a massive Health pool. The first phase isn't too bad, especially if players choose to ride Torrent through the big snowy arena. At that point, a few well-timed dodges and a lot of patience are more than enough.

However, during the second phase, dodging and rolling gets increasingly difficult. Players must also focus on avoiding the dozens of meteorites coming in from all directions. The Fire Giant's staggering 115 feet height makes this boss fight really intimidating, and helps him land devastating hits at unbelievably long distances.

Given how massive young dragons are in The Lands Between, it stands to reason that the largest boss in Elden Ring would be an elder one. Elder Dragon Greyoll has lived thousands of years and is now being consumed by the Scarlet Rot, which has ravaged every inch of Caelid. Given her eon-long lifespan, and unfathomable height of 282 feet, players can't be blamed for thinking that she'd be the ultimate draconic menace.

However, as it turns out, this is not the case. In fact, poor Greyoll is but a shell of what she used to be in her prime. Players have found her to be a great early-game Rune source, as she drops 50,000 Runes when killed and won't really put up much resistance. That said, Greyoll can call other dragons for help, so any brave Tarnished looking for an easy payday should be wary of her able-bodied friends.
