  • The fan's meticulous work highlights the memorable aspects of the game world.

Players of Elden Ring can now admire The Lands Between in an adorable low-poly art style, thanks to the effort of one dedicated fan. The fan recreated the whole Elden Ring base game map using a 3D modeling program as a personal project.

Of the many games FromSoftware has developed , Elden Ring has one of the largest game worlds so far. The legendary developer adapted its "Souls-like" design philosophy to the scale and freeform exploration of more modern open world titles, and in doing so created one of the greatest exploration experiences in any RPG. Exploring The Lands Between balances danger and curiosity in a unique way, making every new discovery feel like a hard-earned reward. As such, millions of players have fallen in love with individual areas of Elden Ring's world, gaining affection for their beautiful sights and letting particularly brutal regions inspire dread.

That sense of attachment to the game world was underscored by a personal project from Elden Ring fan honzaap, who created a 3D replica of the entire game map. Using the 3D modeling software suite Blender, they replicated the game's map in a chunky, "low-poly" style reminiscent of older 3D games. They shared a clipped fly-through with the game's Reddit community, and placed the full version on a Github page.

Fan-made Elden Ring 3D Map Renders The Lands Between in Low-poly Style

Though the low-poly style of honzaap's Elden Ring map eschews fine detail, their modeling skill played off the game's distinctive world design to ably grasp the essence of The Lands Between. Thus, many areas of the map are still instantly recognizable despite the difference in style, including the signature golden Elden Ring Erdtree. Viewing the entire map from a bird's-eye perspective also illustrates the unique shape and geography of The Lands Between. The scarlet tint of the Caelid region contrasts heavily with the gold-topped trees of Limgrave, and the blue waters of Liurnia of the Lakes while the Altus Plateau and Mountaintops of the Giants tower over the rest of the regions.

Fellow players were delighted by honzaap's map, praising their work. In comments, honzaap said that the modeling project took over 500 hours to complete, and the attention to detail astonished the Elden Ring community. Players exploring the map in detail found that even individual grace locations were rendered, along with unique features and notable creatures, like the Elden Ring Walking Mausoleums and the dragon in Stormveil. When asked what they planned to do next, honzaap said that while they're done for now, they might give rendering The Realm of Shadow a try one day, since it is smaller.

The incredible low-poly map of Elden Ring both underscores the dedication of creative fans, and the distinctiveness of FromSoftware's game worlds. The fact that so many players were instantly able to recognize key features of The Lands Between like they were playing Elden Ring GeoGuessr speaks to how memorable the game has been.
