A recent insider’s scoop teases that another actor is being eyed for the live-action Elden Ring movie, and this time, it’s a British treasure and James Bond actor. Elden Ring is a 2022 action RPG from developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, created by Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with author George R.R. Martin. Upon its launch, the game swiftly became one of the most favored and punishing titles to fly the soulslike banner, and the scale of the game and its lore seemed like an ambitious task to bring to the silver screen.

Earlier in the year, it was announced that A24, the esteemed studio behind hits Midsommar, Hereditary, and The Lighthouse, would be producing the Elden Ring movie, with Annihilation and Ex Machina director Alex Garland on board. Martin previously spoke candidly about the Elden Ring movie, and fans of the writer are used to his honesty when it comes to adaptations, including Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. On the other hand, Garland has openly shared his love for the game, having played it several times and mastered the art of defeating its unforgiving bosses.

Elden Ring Movie Reportedly in Talks With James Bond Star Ben Whishaw

Reported by The InSneider, a new scoop suggested James Bond star Ben Whishaw was in talks to star in the Elden Ring movie. Despite no further details being given on the role in question, some fans want to see Whishaw play Elden Ring’s important Vyke character. Whishaw notably portrayed Q in Daniel Craig’s James Bond era, and movie buffs will also know the actor as Paddington Bear’s voice and his varied roles in Cloud Atlas, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, and The Lobster. Elden Ring fans were excited to hear Whishaw’s name seemingly attached to the project, noting he was a terrific “character actor,” being able to fulfill any role he pleases.

Whishaw could potentially be joining another star touted for the main role in the adaptation. Kit Connor was rumored to be the Elden Ring movie’s lead, which would presumably see the young star playing the Tarnished. Connor's breakout role was in 2022’s Heartstopper series, despite appearing previously in 2018’s Ready Player One and 2019’s Rocketman. The rising star has also found success recently in the animated film The Wild Robot and this year’s harrowing Warfare, another project directed by Garland. Having witnessed Connor’s acting chops first-hand in Warfare, Garland perhaps had Elden Ring at the back of his mind while filming the war feature.

In addition to the role of the Tarnished, gamers will know all about the long list of dreaded foes that populate the soulslike game and its following entries: the 2024 Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and the 2025 co-op spin-off Elden Ring: Nightreign. The Best War Games’s own LB Beistad compiled a list of actors who could play Godrick in the Elden Ring movie, highlighting Willem Dafoe and Peter Capaldi, to name a few. Of course, various other characters, like Morgott, Miquella, and Ranni, could possibly appear in the live-action as well, which proposes a stunning ensemble cast to bring the dark fantasy game to life.
