Since its launch back in 2022, Elden Ring has become far more than the original game. FromSoftware's bold action title has amassed not only high praise from players and critics, but it has also brought forth the celebrated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and a multiplayer spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign. That would be impressive enough on its own, but with the recent confirmation that an Elden Ring movie is in the works, the game is set to expand its horizons even further.
There are a few things that have already been confirmed about the project. The film is set to be produced by A24, while Alex Garland is on board to direct. It's a thrilling team-up for those who are fans of both film and video games, but there is still a major unanswered question: the cast. The cast of the live-action Elden Ring movie may not be announced for a while, since the film is in its early stages, but when it comes to Godfrey, there are some exciting possibilities.
Elden Ring Movie: Sir Gideon Ofnir Actor Wish List
Alex Garland’s Elden Ring movie faces some interesting choices if it portrays Gideon Ofnir, and it could even draw one actor from the game’s cast.
Actors Who Could Play Godfrey in A24's Elden Ring Movie
Josh Brolin
Over the years, Josh Brolin has showcased his skill at embracing heavy-hitting action roles, while also being able to nail dramatic storytelling. Whether it's taking on the role of comic book icons like Thanos and Cable, or more complex characters in Sicario and Oldboy, Brolin definitely has the acting chops to successfully sell Godfrey's blend of hulking warrior and emotional nuance. The past decade has been a solid showcase of Josh Brolin's range as an actor, and it would be thrilling to see how he approached bringing the beloved video game boss to life.
Ron Perlman
Out of all the possible actors, Ron Perlman may share the biggest resemblance to Godfrey, but that isn't the only thing that would make him a good fit for the character. Perlman is one of the film industry's most prolific actors, with nearly 300 roles under his belt, via his IMDb page. From Hellboy to Drive, Perlman also boasts an impressive amount of range similar to Brolin.
Ron Perlman is also no stranger to the world of gaming. He's the voice behind the Fallout franchise's iconic "War. War never changes" monologue.
David Harbour
Best known in pop culture for Stranger Things, Black Widow, and Thunderbolts, David Harbour has become one of the biggest actors of his generation within the past decade. Like Perlman, he boasts a larger, strong physique and general resemblance to Godfrey, which could make him a great option for the character. Harbour's screen presence is also incredibly compelling. While characters like Stranger Things' Jim Hopper and Marvel's Red Guardian have their own comedic edges, they also offer plenty of emotional moments, and for a serious character like Godfrey, it would be exciting to see Harbour fully lean into that darker side.
Both David Harbour and Ron Perlman have played the role of Hellboy.
Dave Bautista
It can be difficult to transition from professional wrestling to serious films, but Dave Bautista has shown that it's quite possible. With fellow ex-wrestlers like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson taking a more comedic route in their careers, Bautista has shown that a strong balance of both is achievable. His subdued, but powerful, performance in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 is enough to demonstrate how he could be a strong choice for Godfrey.
Until A24 officially lists the cast, the live-action Elden Ring movie remains fertile ground for speculation to grow. There are plenty of fascinating options to choose from, and it's even possible that a currently unknown actor gets the honor of taking on the role of Godfrey. The wait for an official cast announcement may take a while, but it's exciting to imagine who could step in the shoes of such beloved characters.
