Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing, is a vital character for any first-time Tarnished entering the world of Elden Ring, and he could easily play a part in a movie. Gideon is characterized by a lust for knowledge, at any cost, and will go to terrible lengths that estrange even his own family. The Elden Ring movie could be a great opportunity to show Gideon Ofnir in a new light, perhaps before his search for information led him down a darker path.
But finding someone to fill the shoes of this character will be a delicate task, as fans have gotten used to Joe McGann’s characterful portrayal of Gideon Ofnir’s voice. Alex Garland may want to find someone who can imitate this, or alternatively go his own way, showcasing a new vision of the one-who-knows for his version of Elden Ring.

6 Actors Who Could Play Gideon Ofnir in an Elden Ring Movie
Sean Bean
Sean Bean’s distinctive Yorkshire accent would be a natural fit for Gideon Ofnir’s in-game portrayal, as the two can sound fairly alike. It also helps that he’s a familiar face in fantasy, from The Lord of the Rings, The Elder Scrolls 4, to Game of Thrones, but has also played his fair share of villains too. Knowing Gideon Ofnir’s eventual demise, it might mean that Sean Bean has to die again, but such is his fate until the end of time.
Peter Capaldi
More often a face of TV than film, Peter Capaldi has thrived in lesser-known roles throughout his career, but is well-known for playing some very highly-strung individuals such as The Thick of It’s Malcolm Tucker. Capaldi’s wild presentation could show Gideon’s veneer of composure falling apart as he searches for every secret he can get his hands on, and anyone who has seen Amazon’s The Devil’s Hour will know how well Capaldi can pull off a patient, self-righteous killer.
Shaun Dooley
Shaun Dooley’s characteristically gruff voice has landed him many acting and narration roles, often making short appearances in many shows such as The Witcher. His voice and delivery would be perfect for Gideon Ofnir, but what’s more, he’s already played a character in Elden Ring before, namely Bloody Finger Hunter Yura, so it would be pretty interesting to see him tackle a larger role in the movie version.
Willem Dafoe
Perhaps an unlikely pick for this type of role, Willem Dafoe’s acting range has seen him play some very unlikely parts. His ability to display different levels of mania would be perfect for a Gideon Ofnir that is obsessing over lost knowledge, presenting a composed face to the world that everyone knows is a mask for the madness of his singular goal. Dafoe’s Gideon Ofnir could be quite a terrifying character, and probably a performance that no one would forget.
Michael McElhatton
Michael McElhatton would be a safe bet as Gideon Ofnir if the Elden RIng film wanted to keep things truer to the games. Perhaps most famous for playing Roose Bolton in Game of Thrones, everything about McElhatton's deep, methodical delivery empitomizes Gideon Ofnir's treacherous nature, waiting for the chance to spring his betrayal. Gideon Ofnir’s persecution of the Albinaurics is not a far cry from Roose Bolton's flaying of prisoners, and McElhatton would be a great sleeper pick for a scheming Gideon.
Giancarlo Esposito
Giancarlo Esposito has made a name for himself playing psychopathic drug dealers and tyrannical heads of state before, and he could bring a lot of calm and collected malice to the role. Gideon Ofnir’s title, the All-Knowing, suits Esposito perfectly, whose characters often find themselves undone by their own machinations. Esposito has also done many iconic accents throughout his career, and it would be interesting to see him tackle Gideon’s Yorkshire accent, or if he would give it his own interpretation.
