Elden Ring Nightreign is adding a new feature to its Deep of Night mode that could make the experience more accessible for more players. The Elden Ring Nightreign update will also fix some issues with the mode, and add some additional quality-of-life features that fans may appreciate.
FromSoftware soulslikes have always been notorious for their difficulty, but that hasn't stopped the developer from giving fans even more intense challenges to face. The latest example of this is the Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night mode, which launched on September 11. This Elden Ring Nightreign mode randomizes elements like terrain and which Nightlord the players will face, and increases the difficulty level depending on how far players progress. However, FromSoftware will add something that will make the game more enjoyable for those who would prefer a slightly less punishing experience.
Elden Ring Nightreign Releases New Update for May 2025
FROM Software releases a new update for Elden Ring Nightreign prior to the game's official launch, addressing some lingering issues.
Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Mode Introduces Decreasing Depth
On September 19, Elden Ring Nightreign released a notice of new quality of life changes coming to the high-difficulty Deep of Night mode. Once the update arrives, players will be able to voluntarily decrease their Depth ranking by one level. Further, when players reach Depth level 3 and beyond, they will receive demotion protection, so that in the event of a defeat, they won't lose their rank. This effect will apply to a single defeat on Depth level 3, and two defeats for Depths 4 and 5. Depth level 1 players who are matched with higher rank characters in Depth level 2 expeditions and beyond will no longer lose points if defeated, and Steam players will be able to keep playing in the event of Steam servers disconnecting.
Many players are already celebrating the upcoming changes. In particular, the ability to voluntarily reduce one's Depth level has seen a lot of appreciation from the game community. In discussions about the patch, some fans have noted that they enjoy the passives and additions available in the game mode, or like testing unusual builds, but don't want to go to higher Depths due to the increasing difficulty. Others simply indicated that while Depths 4-5 are playable, they prefer sticking with 1-3 for a less punishing experience. This addition may also help to cut down on players intentionally failing runs in an effort to return to a less difficult Depth, which could be extremely frustrating for Elden Ring Nightreign multiplayer partners who are trying to take the challenge as far as it goes.
In addition, any players who have been frustrated at their Depth level ranking not increasing correctly after a win will be pleased to know that this bug will be fixed with the coming patch. A release date for the popular co-op game's next update hasn't yet been announced, but FromSoftware says it will announce it as soon as possible.
