In order to be successful throughout each run, you will want a variety of weapons infused with different elements. One of these elements is fire, and you will want at least one good weapon to help take down Elden Ring Nightreign's Gnoster.

How Weapons Work in Elden Ring Nightreign

There are thirty-one different types of weapons in Elden Ring Nightreign: daggers, straight swords, greatswords, colossal swords, thrusting swords, heavy thrusting swords, curved swords, curved greatswords, katanas, twinblades, axes, greataxes, hammers, flails, great hammers, colossal weapons, spears, great spears, torches, sacred seals, glintstone staves, ballistas, crossbows, greatbows, bows, light bows, claws, fists, whips, halberds, and reapers.

Each of these weapons is found at random on the map where there are Elden Ring Nightreign map markers. But where you find each of these weapons will decide what kind of element will be infused on top of its usual stats. It is extremely important to nab these weapons when you can; fire is almost a necessity when trying to take down the Sentient Pest.

Where To Get Fire Weapons In Elden Ring Nightreign

As you travel through the somewhat open world of Elden Ring Nightreign, you will see a variety of markers on the map. While some of these will show points of interest, like ruins, churches, and Sites of Grace, there are also elemental markers as well. If you battle a boss in one of these areas or open a chest, one or more of the thirty-one weapon types will drop. This weapon will be infused with the element indicated on the map's marker. The fire element icon will look like a sword on fire, as pictured below.

There are also a handful of weapons that have inherent fire damage, regardless of where you pick them up from. Some of these are legendary Elden Ring Nightreign weapons, while others are regular weapons.

Other Ways to Deal Fire Damage

If there is no treasure chest or boss in the area where an elemental icon shows up, there will sometimes be a single-use throwing item in that spot instead that will deal some elemental damage. In the case of a fire icon, you will find a Fire Bomb; these can be used to deal a small amount of fire damage. Also, you can use Fire Grease to coat your weapon to add fire damage, and some Elden Ring Nightreign relics can also add fire damage to your build.

Why Fire is So Important for Gnoster and Caligo

There are some spoilers for the mechaics of the Gnoster and Caligo fights below. Gnoster is the day 3 boss in the Sentient Pest expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign, and it is weak to fire. You will want to make sure you have access to weapons, relics, and/or single-use items that can set these bugs aflame. In phase one of this fight, using fire will not only deal considerably more damage to the moth half of the monster, but it appears to also make the ground-bound scorpion turn to stone sometimes. If you attack the scorpion with fire weapons, it will occasionally freeze up, its hide turning white. This means it stops moving or attacking, and it takes less damage, which allows you to focus on the moth instead of splitting your attention. It does not appear to do this without fire damage.

In phase two of Gnoster, you will be able to use fire weapons to set fire to the moth. Instead of a brief flare like normal, you will notice that the moth stays on fire for a long time, giving all your fire attacks a DoT effect.

As for the Caligo boss battle, this icy dragon takes a lot more damage when you hit it with fire weapons. It doesn't seem to do anything special like it does with Gnoster, but it will make this chilly fight a lot faster and easier; if you hit the dragon enough with fire, it can also stagger it. Considering how challenging it can be, anything that speeds up the fight is a blessing.
