The next FromSoftware game is just days away, and many fans are eager to get their hands on Elden Ring Nightreign for the first time. Made out of repurposed Elden Ring assets and mechanics, this novel take on the Soulslike formula FromSoftware pioneered looks to give players a whole new perspective on the two-year-old action-RPG. Over the course of three in-game days, Elden Ring Nightreign will see players embark on journeys to defeat one of eight Night Lords, either solo or in a trio. Complete with random loot and landscapes, Nightreign promises to make what’s old feel new again.

In the name of a novel experience, Elden Ring Nightreign has introduced eight new classes, called Nightfarers, for players to take into battle, and these aren't like any starting classes FromSoftware has made before. Every single Nightfarer has a distinct playstyle owing to their unique passive, special, and ultimate abilities, as well as certain characters’ weapon class proficiency modifying that weapon’s moveset. Although this effort is appreciated, and invites more Nightfarers to be added to Nightreign as DLC, it also means that players will quickly gain preferences for certain members of this small starting group.

Elden Ring Nightreign's release is imminent, and some recent information suggests that one Nightfarer will stand out from the crowd.

Which Elden Ring Nightreign Classes Would Aid In Group Play

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Best Characters Might Be Obvious

An early candidate for the best Nightfarer in the game is the Duchess. Players in the network test observed that the Duchess’ abilities seemed better on average than anything Nightreign's other player characters had, as long as her players timed them right. Foremost among these is Restage, a character skill with a relatively short cooldown that replays the last couple seconds of health and posture damage that an enemy took. This includes spells, critical hits, and other characters’ abilities, enabling coordinated teams to melt boss health bars. Improved dodging and an Ultimate Art that cloaks oneself and nearby teammates are also inherently great, even if they’re eclipsed by Restage.

Duchess will likely be the most powerful Nightfarer at Nightreign’s launch, but there's room for more superstar support. Guardian and Ironeye are both made to improve a team’s overall survivability, but they require niche player proficiencies to be at their best. Revenant may require no such thing if rumors of their three Spirit Ash summons prove true. Many players will already be familiar with the benefits of Elden Ring’s Spirit Ash summons, and tacking up to nine more bodies onto a party of three, assuming Revenant summons stack, adds up to a lot more stagger chances and many distracted enemies.

Which Elden Ring Nightreign Class Might Be Best For Solo Play

Players who prefer to play solo, or simply rely on their own strengths during a team session, will also likely gravitate to a few particular Nightfarers. Wylder has the potential to be Elden Ring Nightreign’s most popular character due to being the most well-rounded, and also kitted out like a generic Soulslike “warrior” class. His abilities notably exclude effects that interact with other allies, something the other revealed characters all have, but remain powerful survival, mobility, and damage tools regardless. Long-term tier placement is another discussion, but Wylder should remain a common sight in Nightreign sessions for its first few weeks.

Nightreign’s Executor Could Hold A Secret Weapon

Executor will likely be another common sight, though more because of their stylish samurai aesthetic than for guaranteed effectiveness. Like the Revenant, the Executor’s true capabilities are being kept secret before Nightreign’s launch, but teases of their unique parrying ability already make them an early meta candidate. Resembling Sekiro’s iconic deflection system, the Executor’s parries may hold the best defensive and counter-offensive potential in the cast, only limited by the requirement for players to get the timings down. Elden Ring Nightreign has a Nightfarer for every play style, but early standouts are inevitable, even if they aren’t all accessible.
