Summary

  • Players call for changes to Elden Rin Nightreign's revival mechanic.
  • Reviving process interruption leads to bar reset, making it difficult to revive teammates in Nightreign.
  • Suggestions include establishing checkpoints during reviving process.

Elden Ring Nightreign players are already calling for changes to one of the game’s core co-op mechanics, reviving teammates. FromSoftware's latest title, Elden Ring Nightreign, is a new action RPG that builds upon the foundation of the original Elden Ring, but with many roguelike mechanics.

Elden Ring stands as one of FromSoftware’s most acclaimed franchises, with the main game earning numerous prestigious awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022. Building on this success, FromSoftware released the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that expanded the world and introduced new characters, so it’s no surprise that expectations were high when Nightreign was officially announced in December 2024.

Elden Ring Nightreign has received mixed reviews since launch, as many players continue to struggle with adapting to the game’s different playstyle. One feature that players are asking to be reworked is the revival mechanic. Unlike the original Elden Ring game, players in Nightreign can revive their teammates after they’re knocked down. This mechanic is similar to revival systems in other co-op games, especially in the battle royale genre. When a player is knocked down, a three-part revival bar appears above their character. Attacking the fallen ally reduces this bar, and once fully depleted, the Nightfarer can continue fighting. One of the main complaints is that it currently takes too many hits to complete the revival.

Another criticism is that if the reviving process is interrupted, the bar begins to refill after just a few seconds. This forces players to continuously attack their downed teammate to keep the bar from resetting. Several players have pointed out that one of the most frustrating aspects of the mechanic is being forced to abandon a revive attempt, whether due to dodging an Elden Ring Nightreign boss attack or getting hit, only to see all their progress reversed.

Additionally, players note that after a teammate in Elden Ring Nightreign is knocked down for the third time, reviving them becomes nearly impossible due to the time it takes to deplete all three bars. Some suggest that each bar should act as a checkpoint, so that once two segments are cleared, only the remaining bar should recharge.

As roguelike games typically require frequent balancing, especially post-launch, Elden Ring Nightreign is expected to receive regular adjustments. FromSoftware also previously announced several substantial updates for Elden Ring Nightreign, most of which are focused on improving solo play. The studio has also announced a DLC release in Q4 2025, which will be free for players who own the Deluxe Edition.
