FromSoftware does not have the best history of supporting ultrawide resolutions and unlocked framerates – Elden Ring Nightreign is no exception, unfortunately. Luckily, modders have already figured out how to get rid of black bars in Nightreign and unlock FPS, and both of these features can be modded into the game without cutting off multiplayer entirely.
Elden Ring Nightreign: Best Characters Tier List
These best classes in Elden Ring Nightreign bring synergistic abilities, party utility, or massive damage to any team composition.
You must disable Easy Anti-Cheat to install the Unlock FPS and Ultrawide mods for Nightreign. The easiest way to mod Nightreign and retain multiplayer functionality is to first install the Seamless Co-op mod, though you must connect directly to your friends if you plan to use Seamless Co-op to play Nightreign as it does not connect you to public servers.
How To Remove Black Bars In Elden Ring Nightreign
Though both Elden Ring and Elden Ring Nightreign do render in ultrawide, there are black bars that cover the left and right side of the screen to force it into a 16:9 aspect ratio. To remove black bars, Nightreign players can enable Ultrawide play with mods.
In the early days of the game's release, one Ultrawide mod is available: Ultrawide support - remove black bars. This mod simply removes the black bars on either side of the screen, though there are a few steps you must follow to install the Ultrawide Nightreign mod:
- Install both Seamless Co-op and the Elden Ring Mod Loader, to disable Easy Anti-Cheat without losing access to multiplayer
- Launch the game through the mod loader, then download the Ultrawide support mod.
- Drag the contents of the Ultrawide support mod folder to the NIGHTREIGN/Game/Mods folder in your Steam directory, which should have been be created the first time you use the Mod Loader
- Run Nightreign with the Seamless Co-op mod launcher
- Change the game resolution and back again to enable the mod – you can swap to Borderless and then back to Fullscreen
After you have followed these steps, the black bars in Nightreign will be removed and you will be able to play Nightreign at Ultrawide resolutions! You must launch Nightreign with the Seamless Co-op executable and change the resolution each time you launch the game.
Elden Ring Nightreign: Hardest Nightlords Tier List
The hardest Nightlords in Elden Ring Nightreign present a significantly higher challenge, and more mechanics, than the easiest bosses in the game.
How To Unlock FPS In Elden Ring Nightreign
Normally, the Elden Ring Nightreign FPS is locked to a maximum of 60 FPS, but like Ultrawide support, the game can be patched to render at higher framerates with mods. The Nightreign UnlockTheFps.dll mod does just this, unlocking both the framerate and monitor refresh rate in Nightreign.
It's a relatively simple process to install the Unlock FPS Nightreign mod, but like the Ultrawide Support mod, there are a few prerequisites and steps you must follow to get it working:
- Install the Seamless Co-Op and Elden Ring Mod Loader addons, to disable Easy Anti-Cheat without losing access to multiplayer
- Launch the game through the mod loader, then download the UnlockTheFps.dll mod
- Drag the contents of the Nightreign UnlockTheFPS.dll folder to the NIGHTREIGN/Game/Mods folder in your Steam directory, which should have been created when you used the Mod Loader for the first time
- Edit the config.ini file within the mods/UnlockTheFps folder you just dragged over to your Steam directory to set a new max FPS setting
- Launch the game and turn on FPS counter in your GPU's performance monitoring settings to make sure the mod is working correctly
