FromSoftware has released one hit after another ever since Demon's Souls in 2009. The studio is coming off a Game of the Year win for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and fans are now looking forward to what's next. As it so happens, the next game from FromSoftware is the highly-anticipated collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin called Elden Ring, and its release month may have just been revealed.
FromSoftware released a New Year card on its website that claims the Elden Ring release date will be in June 2020. This is possibly just a placeholder release month or even an error, but since its on FromSoftware's own website, that seems unlikely. Furthermore, this actually corroborates a previous Elden Ring release date leak from retail chain Target, making the June release month seem even more likely.
Back in September, Target leaked that the Elden Ring release date was Tuesday, June 30. Many assumed that was a placeholder date, but since June 30 lands on a Tuesday, it being the real release date has always been possible. After all, video games typically release on Tuesdays and Fridays.
As for when a more formal announcement will come regarding the Elden Ring release date, that remains to be seen. Previous rumors have suggested that Elden Ring will be showcased alongside the Xbox Series X at an event taking place in April or May of this year. Even though Elden Ring will be coming to current-generation consoles, the rumors say that Microsoft will be using the game to showcase the power of its next-generation console.
Whether or not any of this is accurate is suspect, and those looking forward to Elden Ring shouldn't mark anything on their calendars just yet. We haven't even seen gameplay of Elden Ring yet, and so it's difficult to gauge how far along the game is in its development. Considering this, a June release date for Elden Ring may be far too optimistic.
Regardless of when Elden Ring comes out, it's sure to be a big release. FromSoftware has become one of the premiere game developers in the world thanks to its Souls series and other titles like Bloodborne and Sekiro, so fans have put a lot of faith into the upcoming George R.R. Martin collaboration.
Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
