Summary

  • Elden Ring player beats a DLC boss by throwing rocks, showcasing creativity and unconventional strategies.
  • Despite initial concerns about difficulty, players continue to find unique ways to conquer challenges in the game.

An Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree player has managed to beat one of the DLC's most challenging bosses, Messmer the Impaler, in possibly the most unconventional way possible: by throwing rocks at him. As Messmer the Impaler features on the cover of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, it makes sense that he'd pose arguably the biggest challenge in the DLC, but one player clearly isn't worried by that.

Upon its release, many gamers were concerned that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was too hard. Even for a FromSoftware product, it had massively upped the difficulty, leaving even Souls-like veterans struggling to beat its toughest challenges. While the studio did release a small fix addressing these problems, the overall difficulty curve of Shadow of the Erdtree remained tougher than most other FromSoftware titles prior. However, fans of the Souls-like genre like nothing more than a challenge, and it wasn't long before players were finding the craziest ways to take down the bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

An Elden Ring player is left flabbergasted after their friend shares a rather unusual screenshot of their Shadow of the Erdtree map.

An impressive clip posted to Reddit showed Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's Messmer the Impaler boss fight being completed by the player throwing huge rocks at the enemy. The patience that must have been required to complete this is insane, especially considering the fact that many players struggle with Messmer the Impaler even with extremely high-level gear.

Since the launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, it has been fascinating to see how players have found new and interesting ways to take down the expansion's bosses. One Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree player beat Rellana with a dance pad, once again making a mockery of the difficulty level in FromSoftware's latest DLC. Even iconic Elden Ring player Let Me Solo Her returned to the game to help players defeat Radahn, Consort of Miquella. Over the next few months, it will be interesting to see if players find any more crazy ways to take down the Elden Ring DLC bosses.

With Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree now in the past, it'll be interesting to see what FromSoftware chooses to work on next. The studio has yet to announce its future project, and it might even be an Elden Ring sequel given the success of the 2022 RPG. Just recently, FromSoftware's Hidetake Miyazaki confirmed the studio is open to future collaborations like George R.R. Martin, so it's possible that the developer might team up with another renowned creative for a project going forward.
