Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, like most FromSotware games, features several NPCs with highly desirable weapons. Whether it's Freyja's Greatsword, Rellana's Twin Blade's, or Messmer's Spear of the Impaler, players want many of the weapons they'll see NPCs and bosses using. One of the coolest weapons players will encounter is Sir Ansbach's Obsidian Lamina scythe. As players make their way through Ansbach's Quest, they'll likely wonder if it's possible to get Obsidian Lamina in Shadow of the Erdtree. This guide will explain how players can get Sir Ansbach's final weapon, and what it does.

Elden Ring - Beloved Stardust location guide
How to Get Beloved Stardust Talisman in Shadow of the Erdtree

Beloved Stardust is a powerful talisman for sorcerers and casters in Elden Ring, but it comes with a significant downside.

Obsidian Lamina Overview: Stat Requirements, Effects, & Skill

Signature weapon of the Pureblood Knight Ansbach. A viciously keen and slender scythe made for combat. The obsidian edge relies not upon trickery to fulfill its violent purpose – through skill alone the wielder can rip and rend through foes, sowing blossoms of red upon the battlefield.

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Obsidian Lamina is a new weapon of the Reaper weapon type. It deals Slash attacks with all of its damage coming from Physical. Given Ansbach's relation to Mohg, Lord of Blood, it's unsurprising that Obsidian Lamina causes blood-loss buildup, and at 59, it does so at a slightly higher level than other Reaper weapons. Obsidian Lamina weighs only 6.5, and is meant for players who play light on their feet. The Dynastic Sickleplay weapon skill is evasive in nature, so this weapon is likely best suited for those players who use blood-based incantations as their primary offensive tool.

Obsidian Lamina can be upgraded using Somber Smithing Stones to +10, and cannot benefit from spell-based or consumable weapon buffs.

Obsidian Lamina Weapon Skill: Dynastic Sickleplay

The Obsidian Lamina Ash of War is Dynastic Sickleplay, which cannot be changed. The first movement of this skill is evasive in nature, allowing you to quickly pull away from an enemy.

This weapon skill costs 7 FP to cast, and can be chained into two follow-up attacks. Both first follow-up attacks cost 9 FP, and are initiated by performing two strong attacks in succession, after the initial evasion is complete.

A finessed evasive skill that creates room to maneuver. Inputs dictate direction of the backstep. Follow up a strong attack to perform an advancing upward slash. Press strong attack again to bring the weapon back down.

Where To Find Obsidian Lamina Location

To get the Obsidian Lamina weapon in Shadow of the Erdtree, you must make it all the way to the end of Ansbach's quest in Shadow of the Erdtree. The basic steps are as follows:

  • Speak to Sir Ansbach outside Belurat, Tower Settlement at the Main Gate Cross site of grace. This will begin his quest.
  • Find Sir Ansbach in the small library chamber in the Shadow Keep Specimen Storehouse. This is a small, sunken chamber that you will pass as you make your way to the stairs that lead to the second floor of the storehouse. Speak to Ansbach here and exhaust his dialogue.
  • Find the Secret Rite Scroll on the higher levels of the storehouse. From the Fourth Floor site of grace, head outside and up the stairs past the first Fire Knight. Keep going, and you'll find a stairset on the left that goes down to a different side of the fourth floor. Head inside and find the scroll on a small desk near the edge of the floor.
  • Take the scroll to Ansbach and give it to him. Rest at any site of grace and return. You will now find two summon signs, one to help Ansbach against Needle Knight Leda, and one to help Leda. Make sure to assist Ansbach here. This will take you to a fight that will earn you Ansbach's Longbow upon completion.
  • After the fight, you can continue with Freyja 's part of the quest, but it is not necessary to get Obsidian Lamina.
  • Next, you will want to summon Ansbach during the fight with Leda and her allies in Enir-Ilim. This is much later in the game. You will know you are approaching the fight when you encounter a section with a vast amount of sand covering the floor, with a red summon sign to fight Leda and her Allies. Make sure to summon Ansbach here.
  • After the fight, speak to Ansbach when you encounter him at the top of the elevator right after the fight arena. This will be the final step to ensuring Ansbach can be summoned for the final boss fight, which is the key to getting Ansbach's Set and Obsidian Lamina.
  • Summon Ansbach outside the final boss fight arena.
  • After the final fight, you will find Ansbach against the wall just to the left of the exit. Grab the item on his body to receive Obsidian Lamina and Ansbach's Set.

Some players claim that you only need to get to the point where you can summon Sir Ansbach during the final fight, but that you don't actually need to do so to earn Ansbach's gear. We have not confirmed this ourselves, so we recommend summoning him. When we confirm this for certain, we will update trhe guide accordingly.
