  • Users are turning to underrated items like Rune Arcs and Boiled Crab to survive the punishing difficulty of the DLC.

Several Elden Ring players are so frustrated with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC's difficulty level that they are finally using an item they had barely ever used: Rune Arcs. While Elden Ring's Rune Arcs can be insanely powerful and provide users with some extremely useful buffs if used correctly, players usually avoid using them since each one of them can only be used once.

Whenever a new FromSoftware game is released, the difficulty level is one of the biggest talking points. Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is no exception, with players struggling to beat even the early bosses in the expansion. In fact, even Bandai Namco had to step in to help Elden Ring players out with some valuable advice to deal with the DLC's difficulty. Amid that, some players are using an item from the base game that they had ignored all this while.

The Divine Beast Dancing Lion is one of the most terrifying bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, but it is quite hilarious under the hood.

In a new post on the Elden Ring subreddit, user oarndj highlights how they have started using an underutilized item in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The user added a picture of a Rune Arc, jestingly stating that they knew they had been saving these for a reason all this while. In fact, several users echoed similar sentiments, as they have started using the item more frequently to deal with Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC's unforgiving difficulty.

One user states that they started the DLC with 190 Rune Arcs but now are only down to 25, which speaks volumes about the increasing use of this item in the DLC. Another user highlighted how they started with 28 while going against Rellana but now are only down to 6. Notably, Rune Arcs aren't the only underrated Elden Ring item players are resorting to, as another player highlighted they have started using Boiled Crab, an item they previously never thought they'd require.

How To Farm Great Runes In Elden Ring

For players running out of Rune Arcs, there are numerous ways to get them. While farming rats and ants is one of the less reliable ways for non-Arcane build users, making use of Elden Ring's multiplayer aspects gives them a guaranteed drop. Some players are even wondering which are the best Great Runes to use with the Rune Arcs in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and the community has some great suggestions.

For players who have not hit the soft caps yet, the Godrick's Great Rune can give a massive +5 boost to every stat. For others, using Morgott's Great Rune or Radahn's Great Rune are probably better options. Another good one for traversing the unforgiving dungeons in Land of Shadows is Rykard's Great Rune, which restores HP upon defeating enemies.
