FromSoftware has recently delayed Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition to 2026. While the delay could be frustrating for Nintendo Switch 2 owners, it’s not entirely surprising, as Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was reportedly struggling with optimization.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition was announced earlier this year for the Nintendo Switch 2, originally aiming for a 2025 release. This upcoming version of Elden Ring will come with both the base game and the “Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion, featuring new armor, weapons, and Torrent customization features, as well as two new classes: Knight of Ides and Heavy Knight. Fortunately for gamers who don’t have a Switch 2, the new content will also be available for other platforms after the launch.
Elden Ring Mysteries That Are Still Unsolved
Three years after its release, players still have plenty of questions about the world of Elden Ring.
When will Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Be Released?
- Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will now be released in 2026.
Unfortunately, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has been delayed to 2026. FromSoftware shared the news by explaining that the delay was made to “allow time for performance adjustments.” Anyone who has been following Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition closely will not be entirely surprised to see the game being pushed to 2026. Reports made from Gamescom attendees have indicated that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition had severe performance issues on the Switch 2, dipping as low as 15 FPS in some crowded sections of the game. Apparently, the performance was so underwhelming that publisher Bandai Namco even forbade Gamescom attendees from recording the game’s footage.
While Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is being eagerly awaited by Switch 2 owners, this is not the first time that fans have been disappointed with it. Soon after the game was announced, it was revealed that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’s physical edition will be a Game-Key Card release. Nintendo Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards have been fairly controversial, as they aren't proper physical releases, and are effectively just digital downloads with an extra step.
Despite these issues, the chance to play Elden Ring on Nintendo’s console and the new content are certain to keep some fans hyped. Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies since its original release in 2022, becoming one of the most popular open-world RPGs ever created. Hopefully, FromSoftware will take its time with the Switch 2 version of the game and offer an amazing experience to players, pleasing both veterans wanting to replay their adventures in the Lands Between and newcomers who want to explore Elden Ring’s world for the first time.
