Summary
- Torrent's fear of Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring's DLC is due to the Frenzied Flame's ability to permanently kill him.
- Fans have criticized the Abyssal Woods area for its difficulty, lack of rewards, and frustrating enemies, but this lore justifaction for Torrent's behavior is interesting nonetheless.
Elden Ring fans have discovered why Torrent is so afraid of coming out in the Abyssal Woods in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and apparently, it is due to fear of his death. While many believed that it was due to the horrifying enemies present in the area, it seems like there is much deeper lore connected to the strange mechanic in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree has a plethora of new stuff that was added, ranging from weapons to spells, incantations, and a lot more. There were some interesting mechanics as well, such as the addition of Scadutree Fragments in Elden Rin g which gave players an extra attack and defense boost exclusive to the Land of Shadows. One aspect that has drawn a lot of flak is the unavailability of Torrent in a certain area, but there seems to be a big reason for that.
Elden Ring Actor Had No Idea His Bayle Monologue Was so Popular
An Elden Ring actor reveals a lot of interesting details about how the most iconic voice of Shadow of the Erdtree was recorded.
In a new tweet, user SirJohnSekiro highlights an interesting piece of lore that explains the anomaly in Torrent's behavior in Abyssal Woods. Players who have reached the area might be well aware of the fact that a warning is displayed in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC which prevents them from summoning Torrent, which basically states that the Spectral Seed is scared. Many believed that it was due to the Winter Lanterns-like Elden Ring enemies haunting the area, also known as the Untouchables. However, it seems like it is due to the fact that Frenzied Flame can melt them, as stated in the Surging Frenzied Flame item description.
Fans Circle Back To Frenzied Flame Ending In Elden Ring
While many fans were quite surprised to learn this, they were quick to note that it does make a lot of sense. In fact, something similar can be witnessed if players take the Frenzied Flame ending in Elden Ring. Toward the end, players can see the Spectral Seed disappearing and even Torrent wailing, which aligns with the new piece of lore added in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
The Abyssal Woods has been a controversial area in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. While it adds a completely new dynamic to the genre by implementing stealth-based gameplay, fans have been quite critical of it. Apart from the fact that the Aging Untouchables are an absolute menace and extremely frustrating to deal with, many found the area to be extremely empty. With just a boss fight towards the end of Abyssal Woods, there aren't many items available in the vicinity, which makes it not at all rewarding considering how difficult it is to navigate the area.
