As soon as players leave the Imperial Prison’s sewers in Oblivion Remastered, they will have an entire open world for them to explore, filled with dangers, powerful artifacts, and an endless amount of fun. There are plenty of side quests in Oblivion Remastered that are not tied to levels and are definitely things players should jump into first.
Oblivion Remastered: Best Dark Brotherhood Quests, Ranked

Whether it’s the desire to claim loot, enjoy a fun story quest, or embark on a long faction chain, there are so many quests in Oblivion Remastered that can be started from the moment players leave the Imperial City Prison to make sure they get the best possible experience.
8 Zero Visibility
An Easy Quest for a Free Room to Keep in Aleswell
- How to Start: Enter Aleswell Inn and speak with Diram Serethi (North of Imperial City)
In the northern area of the Imperial City, players can follow the Red Ring Road to discover the small settlement of Aleswell. Upon visiting this area, players will find not a soul in sight, even if the vegetables seem well-maintained. This small settlement is not a ghost town, as the settlers are invisible, and players must lift the spell from Fort Caractacus. The resulting quest is a lot of fun, and it also grants players free lodging inside Aleswell’s Inn, which is a great place to sleep and stash loot without having to worry about renting a room elsewhere.
7 Mages Guild Recommendations
The Quirky Misadventures of Wizards to Obtain Enchantments and Spells
- How to Start: Enter any Mages Guild (Anvil, Bravil, Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, Leyawiin, Skingrad)
Players can find any Mages Guild within the holds of each city of Cyrodiil, but each of them has a unique Recommendation quest to complete. It’s of the utmost urgency that players complete these if they want to enchant weapons and armor, or if they want to invest further in the abilities of a wizard, since becoming a prominent member of the Mages Guild provides great skills and power to magic. The quests themselves are a lot of fun and can be started right away, and they can involve anything from freeing a wizard from a dream to recovering lost artifacts.
Oblivion Remastered: All Horses, Ranked
If players are going to travel the expansive and dangerous lands of Tamriel in Oblivion Remastered, then they are going to need a fast horse.
6 A Brush With Death
Enter Into a Painted World for the Apron of Adroitness
- How to Start: Speak to Tivela Lythandas in her house in Cheydinhal
At Level 1, A Brush With Death becomes one of the easiest quests to complete, and such a fun and beautiful one at that. Rumors around Cheydinhal will take players to Tivela at Lythandas House, where it’s discovered that her husband, Rhythe, has locked himself in his study and has somehow managed to trap himself within his painting. The quest involves battling fierce painted trolls, with a reward well worth the battles at hand since the Apron of Adroitness increases Agility and Intelligence by 10 Points, and while it might not be worth wearing in high levels, it’s a great thing to sell to merchants.
5 Azura’s Daedric Quest
A Quest for a Daedric Prince to Keep a Permanent Soul Gem
- How to Start: Reach Level 2 and provide Glow Dust to Azura's Shrine (North of Cheydinhal)
Upon reaching Level 2 and with Glow Dust in your inventory, players will be able to head to the far north region of Cheydinhal, past Lake Arrius, to find Azura’s Shrine. At this shrine, players can converse with Azura and complete her quest that involves killing vampires within the nearby Gutted Mine, as doing so will reward them with Azura’s Star. Azura’s Star is a wonderful Daedric Artifact to have so early on, as it acts as an infinite Soul Gem that can be re-used to enchant and replenish weapons if players kill an enemy with the Soul Trap enchantment or the Soul Trap spell.
4 Origin of the Gray Prince
Discover Agronak’s Vampiric Foundations
- How to Start: Speak with Agronak gro-Malog in the Arena District Bloodworks, Imperial City
Once players become an Arena combatant in the Imperial City, they will be able to converse with the Grand Champion, Agronak gro-Malog. There’s something unusual about this orc, for he is far paler than the others, and it’s time to find out why. Talking to Agronak will send players on a quest to visit Crowhaven, an old lair that contains the villainous Lord Lovidicus and his diary that will reveal the Gray Prince, the Grand Champion himself, is part vampire. This is a great early quest to play for the fact that it nullifies the Grand Champion in battle for future Arena fights, and provides players with a +3 stat to Blade, Block, and Athletics.
3 A Knife in the Dark
Kill Any Innocent NPC to Start the Dark Brotherhood Questline
- How to Start: Kill any NPC and sleep in a bed
A Knife in the Dark can be started as soon as players are freed into Cyrodiil, and the quest is obtained after players kill any NPC just going about their day-to-day. While there are plenty of targets to get rid of, players just need to find one to kill so that they can be discovered by the right people. After killing an innocent NPC and then sleeping in a bed, players will be woken by Lucien Lachance, who offers the opportunity to join the Dark Brotherhood and become an assassin of shadows, starting one of the best questlines in the game with ease.

Oblivion Remastered is filled with easter eggs, from pop culture extravaganzas to loving homages to the original 2006 game.
2 Finding the Thieves Guild
Discover the Thieves Guild to Sell Stolen Items and Steal an Elder Scroll
- How to Start: Venture to the Imperial City's Waterfront District's garden at midnight
The Thieves Guild is one of the more elusive factions in Oblivion Remastered, and while players might have heard of them and seen the wanted posters of the Gray Fox, it’s doubtful that they have seen them. Luckily, players can actually get recruited into the Thieves Guild by speaking with Armand Christophe in the Waterfront District of the Imperial City’s garden area at midnight, and upon doing so, they will begin their first steps to lockpicking, pickpocketing, and stealing so that they might one day become the next Gray Fox.
1 An Unexpected Voyage
Awaken on an Ocean Bound Boat
- How to Start: Rent a room and sleep in The Bloated Float, Imperial City's Waterfront District
Taking a snooze in the lodgings of The Bloated Float in the Imperial City’s Waterfront District might seem like a harmless place to rest, but players will wake up to discover that they are stranded at sea, with a bunch of pirates set to rob the place and keep the player captive. The mission itself has players run across the ship to speak with the assailants and kill them. Not only is this a great quest for understanding how dialogue can lead to new situations, but it also provides players with an opportunity to claim the Blackwater Blade, a weapon that will serve players well in the early days of Oblivion Remastered.
