After you make it to the top of the central tower of an Oblivion Gate in Oblivion Remastered, you must remove the Sigil Stone to close the portal and return to Cyrodiil. After picking up a Sigil Stone, it will be added to your inventory. Here, you can use a Sigil Stone to enchant either your weapons with its Offensive Effect or your armor with its Defensive Effect.

8 Shield
Defensive Effect
- Shield Sigil Stone Effect: Grants 20% Shield
As you get into the later levels of Oblivion Remastered, enemies start to hit for a massive chunk of damage. One of the best ways to make the game easier when your character crosses the Level 20 threshold is to equip gear with passive damage resistance stats or effects, like Shield.
If you get the Shield Sigil Stone, Oblivion Remastered players should put it onto either a piece of gear they don't plan to unequip any time soon, or preferably, a piece of jewelry like a Ring. Though Shield is great for mitigating physical damage, if you go up against a spellcaster, it won't be as useful unless you get in close combat and force them to draw a melee weapon.
7 Detect Life
Defensive Effect
- Detect Life Sigil Stone Effect: Grants Detect Life in a 180 ft area
The Detect Life effect is one of the most useful for Stealth builds as it can reveal enemy locations before you turn the corner and accidentally bump into them. Most Detect Life spells grant this effect temporarily in a limited area, but the Detect Life Sigil Stone grants this effect permanently in an enormous 180 ft area.

There are fast ways to level up Athletics in Oblivion Remastered so players can have the greatest benefits to their fatigue and sprint speeds.
Detect Life is not very useful for players who like to rush into combat and start swinging, but it's great for players who like to plan ahead. Put this defensive effect onto a piece of jewelry or, if you want to take inspiration from the Grey Fox, enchant a piece of headgear with Detect Life.
Just be sure to unqeuip your Detect Life gear before you enter combat as Detect Life changes how the world looks, which can be annoying to deal with in the heat of battle.
6 Absorb Magicka
Offensive Effect
- Absorb Magicka Sigil Stone Effect: Absorbs 50 points of the target's Magicka on hit
Magicka is a difficult resource to recover unless you have a large store of Sorcery potions. Even with high Willpower, spellcasters and Battlemage builds often find that they never have enough Magicka to cast all the spells they want.
Some Sigil Stones can come with the offensive effect Absorb Magicka, which will leech a chunk of Magicka from your target when hit with a weapon enchanted with this effect. If you never engage in close combat, this effect is practically useless.
But if you play a hybrid physical damage and magic damage build, put the Absorb Magicka enchantment onto your weapon or bow. Weave between weapon attacks and spells to efficiently manage your Magicka with this Sigil Stone effect.
5 Frost, Fire, or Shock Damage
Offensive Effects
- Elemental Damage Sigil Stone Effects: Deals 25 points of Frost, Fire, or Shock Damage on hit
Some Sigil Stones can come with either Frost, Fire, or Shock damage as an Offensive Effect. Each of these at the highest Sigil Stone tier will deal 25 points of their associated elemental damage type on hit.

These might not be the most exciting Sigil Stone effects, but they are useful for increasing your damage output with weapons. The one downside is that some enemies are resistant or even immune to certain damage types, so you won't benefit from bonus elemental damage against these enemies.
4 Resist Magic
Defensive Effect
- Resist Magic Sigil Stone Effect: Grants 20% Resist Magic
In Oblivion Remastered, Resist Magic and similar defensive stats can make a world of difference at high levels. When you get to around level 20, enemies start to deal enormous chunks of Health damage with physical attacks and can cast spells that kill you in one hit.
Similar to the Shield Sigil Stone, if you get a Resist Magic effect Sigil Stone, you'll be able to enchant an item to vastly increase your survivability against these types of attacks.
20% might not seem like a lot, but think of it like a one-fifth reduction in damage that can stack with other items that grant Resist Magic. A spell that deals 100 damage will now deal 80, and that's before taking into account all of your other Magic damage reductions.
Enchant this Sigil Stones onto a piece of gear with a low weight that you can easily swap off. Enchant a Ring or a Necklace item with this Sigil Stone, and keep a second piece of jewelry for that slot that you can switch to should you fight an enemy that doesn't use spells at all.
3 Soul Trap
Offensive Effect
- Soul Trap Sigil Stone Effect: Applies Soul Trap for 20 seconds on hit
The only way to recharge enchanted weapons in Oblivion Remastered is to apply a filled Soul Gem to it. To fill Soul Gems, you must use the Soul Trap spell on an enemy, then kill them before the Soul Trap effect wears off. If you are successful, you will see a pop-up message on the top-left of the screen that confirms you have captured a soul.
Oblivion Remastered: Funny Ways To Die
There are many funny ways to die in Oblivion Remastered, with new deaths constantly being discovered.
Normally, players could cast a Soul Trap spell at an enemy to fill Soul Gems. But if you get a Sigil Stone with the Soul Trap offensive effect, you can enchant a weapon with the Soul Trap effect instead. When you hit an enemy you will inflict Soul Trap, and can keep wailing on them to keep resetting the effect timer.
Having Soul Trap on a weapon is one of the easiest ways to capture souls in Oblivion Remastered. You don't have to worry about swapping your currently-equipped Spell, you can just equip your Soul Trap weapon instead.
2 Feather
Defensive Effect
- Feather Sigil Stone Effect: Increases your equip load by 125
Managing your inventory equip load is one of the most frustrating parts of Oblivion. Too many times have adventurers wandered into a dungeon, found a heavy item that's worth a lot of Gold, and realized that they don't have enough carry capacity to bring it back to a vendor.
Some Sigil Stones will have the Feather defensive effect which, when enchanted onto an equipped item, will grant the Feather effect for 150 points. Unlike Feather spells, this effect is permanent. Enchant it onto a Ring and you will have an item you can quickly equip to lighten your load when needed without replacing major armor pieces.
1 Chameleon
Defensive Effect
- Chameleon Sigil Stone Effect: Grants 30% Chameleon
In Oblivion Remastered, the Chameleon effect is like a less-useful Invisibility. Different items and some spells grant various percentages of Chameleon, which makes it harder for enemies to notice your presence.
Normally, it's only useful for Stealth builds that rely on sneaking to get around, which Chameleon can help with. But if you are able to get 100% Chameleon, you'll effectively become 100% Invisible at all times.
The Chameleon Sigil Stone can go a long way in making a 100% Invisibility build work because it grants a whopping 30% Chameleon to the item it is enchanted onto. With this, you only need to make up the remaining 70% to reach 100% Chameleon, which isn't as hard to achieve as one might think.
If you get a Sigil Stone with the Chameleon effect, don't reset your quicksave and try for a different Sigil Stone effect. Even if you don't have a use for it in the moment, you'll be kicking yourself later on when you want to try this unique 100% Chameleon build without one of its core pieces.
