Troll Fat is an alchemical ingredient with multiple uses in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, including being a key item needed to start Malacath's Daedric quest. The main way to obtain Troll Fat is, of course, by killing Trolls. However, since Trolls are high-level enemies that don't appear in the early game, players looking for this item in the first few hours of gameplay will find themselves stuck.
Luckily, there are a few ways to obtain Troll Fat early without having to encounter or fight any of these fearsome creatures. Here's the breakdown.
Where to Get Lion Pelt in Oblivion Remastered
Lion Pelt is a key item needed to start a lengthy quest related to the Daedric Prince, Molag Bal in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
How to Get Troll Fat in Oblivion Remastered
Troll Fat is an ingredient that can be harvested from the corpses of Trolls (most variants). Alternatively, players can also stumble upon Troll Fat for sale at Alchemy vendors or inside chests. Trolls are enemies that start appearing as random encounters outdoors and in caves starting from level 8. This means regardless of how much you explore looking to find them as a low-level character, it's impossible to run into them. The only way to encounter a Troll at earlier levels is through certain Fighters Guild missions or as static loot.
Skingrad Mages Guild
A single piece of Troll Fat can be found in a display case in the Skingrad Mages Guild Living Quarters (upper level). You will need to lockpick a Hard lock to get to it, but it doesn't count as stealing if you're a member of the Mages Guild. This Troll Fat will be present here regardless of player level, as it is static loot.
Fighters Guild Troll Missions
You can fight leveled Trolls in the following quests issued by the Fighters Guild in their respective city. These Trolls will drop Troll Fat.

Troll Locations
Trolls are a relatively common sight in Cyrodiil. Most of them appear after the player reaches level 8, but some can be found even before that. Following are some confirmed locations where you can encounter Trolls if you go looking for them as a Level 8+ character.

Fyrelight Cave, on the road between Skingrad and Kvatch. |
|
Sandstone Cavern, northeast of Kvatch (also spawns Will-o-the-Wisps, Minotaurs, Mountain Lions, Bears, and Spriggans. |

|
In the West Weald, between Skingrad and Bravil. |
|
In the Great Forest, west of Imperial City. |
|
Along the road south of Bravil. |
There are many more locations where Trolls can spawn in, but the ones listed above are the most dense, with guaranteed spawns.
Painted Trolls do not drop Troll Fat; they drop Painted Troll Fat, which is a different material altogether.
Alchemy Shops
There are multiple vendors across Cyrodiil who specialize in selling alchemical ingredients. Most of them can be easily found in the Imperial City. However, like Troll spawns, merchant stock is also leveled. As a result, Troll Fat only starts appearing for sale at these vendors after the Hero reaches level 9.
