Though Oblivion Remastered has a lot of changes, not everything from the original game was overhauled to fit modern tastes. The game still features much of the original iconic voice cast, the same Skills and Spells, and the same old-school RPG mechanics – including level scaling.

All Races in Oblivion Remastered have strengths and weaknesses, but the best Oblivion Remastered races offer powerful benefits for specific builds.

In Oblivion Remastered, level scaling works a bit differently than it has in other Elder Scrolls games, but mostly resembles the same system that was present in the original game. This guide explains whether Oblivion Remastered scales enemies and loot to your level, and briefly describes how the level scaling system in Oblivion Remastered is tied to progression.

Does Oblivion Remastered Have Level Scaling?

Oblivion Remastered Level Scaling System Explained Mythic Dawn Cult Mehrunes Dagon Quest

Just like in the original version of Oblivion, Oblivion Remastered level scaling will modify enemies, loot, and the difficulty of certain minigames as you level up. The system remains largely unchanged from the original game, however, the leveling system itself has received some major changes that make the Oblivion Remastered level scaling system not feel quite so obtuse.

Now, as you raise both Major and Minor Skills, you will gain character level XP – leveling is no longer tied exclusively to Major Skills. Because of this, you can engage in any game system you like, even if you aren't trained in its associated skill, and still make progress toward your next level.

How Level Scaling Works In Oblivion Remastered

The Oblivion Remastered level scaling system essentially makes every enemy, loot container, and many other features align with your current player level. So, if you are level 1, you will sometimes encounter low-level humanoid Bandits wearing Furs in dungeons. But if a level 20 character enters these same areas, they will see higher-level enemy variants kitted out in high-level armor with high-level spells and weapons.

There are a handful of storage containers players can use to store items in Oblivion Remastered, including storage chests within an owned home.

The same applies to containers and certain minigames, like the Lockpicking minigame. Oblivion Remastered level scaling will fill containers with loot appropriate for your level, which in turn increases Gold rewards, the type and effects of Enchanted items, the value of Gems and sellable goods, and the chance to get specific unique pieces of gear from containers as you reach the required levels.

Though this may make you feel like you are never becoming more powerful, as enemies will always match your level, you will unlock new Spells, upgraded equipment options, and other ways to deal with enemies more efficiently as you reach higher character levels.

How Does Equipment Scale In Oblivion Remastered?

Oblivion Remastered Level Scaling System Explained Equipment Scaling

Equipment tends to scale in level bands of about three – the same low-level enchantments will spawn on a weapon from Level 1 to 3, but the Level 4 version will have improved versions of these enchantments. At level 7, the stats will upgrade once again, and so on.

  • For example, Umbra will deal 10 damage if you get it at Level 1, but 16 if you find it at a higher level
  • As another example, the Shadowhunt will deal 3 points of Health and Magicka damage on strike if you get it at Level 1 (in addition to other on-hit effects). But if you pick it up at Level 5, it will deal 7 points of Health and Magicka damage instead.

In Oblivion Remastered, world scaling happens on a per-level basis, while equipment scaling happens in level bands. Compared to Skyrim, which mostly used level bands for all scaling, and Morrowind, which didn't have any scaling at all, Oblivion Remastered level scaling system changes everything to match your current level.
