Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered isn’t a game that tells you how you should live your life. It’s a remaster of one of the classic open-world RPGs, and it’s not afraid to let you loose on the world, wreaking havoc on the citizens of Cyrodiil as you see fit.
One of the many criminal acts you can perform during your stay in the realm of the imperials is pickpocketing, which involves stealing things from the inventory of an NPC right under their noses. It's not the easiest thing to do, so here's everything you need to know about taking these items for yourself.
Oblivion Remastered: 8 Best Early-Game Weapons, Ranked
These early-game weapons in Oblivion Remastered can carry you through Cyrodiil’s toughest starter quests with damage, sustain, and unique effects.
How Does Pickpocketing Work in Oblivion Remastered?
The remastered version doesn’t deviate much from the original in terms of the sneak mechanics, though some users report frequent crashes while they are busy emptying the pockets of their allies and enemies alike.
The basic mechanics for pickpocketing in the game are quite simple. If you interact with an NPC while crouching, you can pickpocket them. If you try to bite off more than you can chew, or they see you while you’re in the process of pickpocketing, your criminal endeavor comes to a halt. The chance of success while pickpocketing depends on three things:
- Sneak Skill: The higher your sneak skill, the better your chance at successfully swiping someone’s purse.
- Value of Item: The higher the value of an item, the lower the chance of stealing it without alerting the target.
- Quantity of Item: The more items you try to steal, the more likely you are to fail.
How To Change Class In Oblivion Remastered
For those wondering if it's possible to change class in Oblivion Remastered, it is technically possible, but with a big catch.
What Happens if You Fail Pickpocketing in Oblivion Remastered?
Failing at a skill check is quite common in RPGs, and pickpocketing is nothing if not a sneak skill check. There are a few different things that might happen if you fail at a pickpocketing attempt.
- You won’t be able to try to pickpocket the target again until the next day (that is, until after midnight has passed).
- Other than a select few characters, like the Adoring Fan, you will lower the Disposition of the NPC by 25 points or more. Depending on how low their disposition towards you was already, they might become hostile.
- You will get a bounty and a nearby guard will head to your location to arrest you.
You can use the
Chameleon effect to decrease your chance of getting detected while pickpocketing.
