There are quite a few aspects of the Boots of Springheel Jak quest for Oblivion Remastered's Thieves Guild chain that players might need help with, so this guide will serve those who need it by ensuring they complete it and earn themselves some gold while they're at it.

How to Start the Boots of Springheel Jak Quest in Oblivion Remastered

In order to start the Boots of Springheel Jak, players must first have fenced 800 gold's worth of stolen goods to the Thieves Guild merchants. Upon doing so, and having completed the previous mission, Arrow of Extrication, players will be able to receive yet another message from the Gray Fox. To receive Gray Fox's message, head to the Imperial City and use the in-game wait function for 24 hours, after which players will then be interrupted by Amusei, who will tell players to find the Gray Fox in Gandrehel's House in Cheydinhal. Players can then visit the Gray Fox to begin the Boots of Springheel Jak quest.

Before proceeding, it's a good idea to create a separate save file just until the quest is completed, as there are some notorious bugs that could prevent players from progressing the quest.

How to Find Clues in Jakben Imbel's House in Oblivion Remastered

The start of the quest will require players to head to the Imperial City, where they must locate Jakben's house. Players can ask beggars for the location, but to make it easier, Jakben's House can be found on the inner wall of the Imperial City's Talos Plaza. Players will need to lockpick the door to access the interior, but be warned, Jakben and his servant, Gemellus Axius, could be inside. Even if they are, feel free to avoid stealth and ignore them as they will not call for guards so long as players are quick.

Once inside Jakben's house, enter the upstairs' Private Quarters' area and then head for the dining room. Players can find a staircase in this dining room that leads to a trap door. Upon using lockpicks to unlock the trap door, players can then use another lockpick to access the desk and pick up the quest item: Imbel Genealogy, which is the one and only clue in Jakben's house.

With Imbel Genealogy acquired, it's time to find and talk to Jakben himself. This is the part of the quest that can be a tad buggy, as Jakben can have a few spots to wander in. Listed below are all the different ways and times that players can find Jakben, with the most common being listed first:

  • Wait outside of Jakben's house until around 5:30 AM to 6 AM, when he will exit his front door and enter the Talos Plaza.
  • Wait outside of Jakben's house until 10 PM, where Jakben will walk around the Talos Plaza until 2 AM on Morndas, Middas, and Fredas.
  • Enter the basement in Jakben's house and wait in front of the locked catacombs door for 6 AM, where he should turn up to enter the crypt to sleep.

If Jakben still has not spawned, or players are unable to find him, it is likely that Jakben has died outside due to sun damage, because when the player changes times while he is still outside, due to the fact that Jakben is a vampire. In cases like this, reload a previous save before accessing Jakben's house.

Once players find Jakben, interact with him to question him about Springheel Jak's Tomb, where he will give players the key to the Catacombs that can be accessed through Jakben's basement on the lower floor of his house. Before entering the Catacombs, bring a Potion of Cure Disease, as there are vampires afoot. Alternatively, players can just kill Jakben here for the boots, but that might incur a bounty and gain the attention of the Dark Brotherhood.

fighting ghosts in jakben's tomb

With the key to the Catacombs within Jakben's House, players will want to head inside, where they will find a small dungeon. While there are some small rooms to the left, they only contain lesser vampires and chests, and the main focus is to continue heading forward. Be warned, there are quite a few ghost-type enemies, so a weapon with enchanting, silver weapons, or spells will be required to kill them.

Upon reaching the end of the dungeon, players will find Springheel Jak's Coffin, which will only contain Jakben Imbel's Diary. Upon reading the diary in the inventory, players will discover that Jakben is actually Springheel Jak, and at this point, Jakben should enter the Catacombs to fight the player. Upon killing Jakben, players can loot his corpse for the Boots of Springheel Jak, which provide a whopping 50 points of Acrobatics. Sadly, players cannot keep them, as they must return the Boots of Springheel Jak to the Gray Fox at Gandrehel's House in Cheydinhal, concluding the penultimate Thieves Guild quest and providing players with 500 gold.
