News-deprived Elder Scrolls 6 fans have turned to Bethesda's most recent title, Starfield, to get a glimpse of what the highly anticipated RPG could eventually look like. Elder Scrolls 6 fans have been extremely patient over the years, with the wait for a sequel to Skyrim set to extend to 14 years later this year.

The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced with a vague cinematic trailer back in 2018, seven years after the release of Skyrim. In hindsight, the game was probably announced too early, as it set an expectation of a release within a shorter timeframe than what has transpired. Bethesda has largely remained tight-lipped about the project, and that 2018 trailer is still the only official look at the game. Even the setting remains a mystery, and some fans are getting impatient.

Starfield Leveling The Elder Scrolls 6 Square Peg Round Hole
Starfield’s Leveling System Is Fine and All, But It’d Be a Square Peg in a Round Hole for The Elder Scrolls 6

Starfield’s leveling works for what it is, but The Elder Scrolls 6 could collapse under the weight of a system that doesn’t reward rerolling.

As spotted over at TheGamer, Redditor PotatoEatingHistory has taken to pushing Starfield's graphics settings to the maximum, capturing some stunning screenshots of characters in the game in dramatic lighting in Photo Mode. While The Elder Scrolls 6 will obviously have a very different visual aesthetic from Starfield, it's an interesting glimpse at what Bethesda's Creation Engine 2 is capable of when pushed to the limit.

Some Bethesda Fans Are Using Starfield For a Glimpse of The Elder Scrolls 6's Graphical Potential

Most agreed that Starfield still looks good a few years later, but others had higher hopes for the upcoming Elder Scrolls sequel. User BilboniusBagginius says they "assume they'll look quite a bit better. Like going from Fallout 4 to Starfield." Another pointed out that they "don’t really like the dead eyes staring at my soul from Starfield NPCs," with others clarifying that it's the characters in motion that need improvement for The Elder Scrolls 6.

There's still no sign of when fans can expect to hear more from Bethesda regarding The Elder Scrolls 6. Last month, a rumor claimed that an Elder Scrolls 6 trailer is in the works, although nothing has yet come of this. Given the fact that Starfield was only released in late 2023, there's no reason to believe a new Elder Scrolls title is on the horizon any time soon, although those who have already waited nearly 14 years for a sequel may not be particularly pleased by this.
