As players in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered make their way city to city, exploring everything inside, players will come across Guilds that they can join and quests, some of which are very different from your traditional fetch quests. One such example is "A Brush With Death" quest, which starts in Cheydinhal inside one of the houses. The quest itself is not that complicated, but there are instances where players might be confused.
Oblivion Remastered: How to Get & Use Varla Stones
Varla Stones are similar in purpose to Soul Gems, with a slight difference. Here's how to get and use them in Oblivion Remastered.
This guide offers a step-by-step walkthrough on how to start the quest and what rewards await the players upon completing it in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
Even though it might seem self-explanatory, it's best to avoid stealing or pickpocketing items from inside houses unless you're ready to have a guard chase you down—and they won’t give up easily. Once you're caught, expect to either pay a fine, go to jail, or fight your way out.
A Brush With Death Quest Walkthrough In Oblivion Remastered
To start the quest, make your way to Rythe Lythandas's House, which is located on the southern side of Cheydinhal. Once you’re inside, speak to Trivela Lythandas, who will explain that her husband, Rythe, has been missing for the past two days. She will mention that he usually spends his time locked inside his art studio, but when she opened the door recently, the room was completely empty.
She will hand you Rythe's Studio Key, which you can use to unlock the door to the right and enter the small room. Inside, you'll find an Unusual Painting to the Painted World—interacting with it will transport you inside.
Once inside the Painted World, Rythe will approach you and explain how he ended up trapped inside. Apparently, a thief entered the painting and used Rythe’s magical Brush of Truepaint to summon Troll Guardians for protection. To help you deal with these enemies, Rythe will give you 6 Turpentine, which can be applied to your weapon for increased damage. Follow the linear path and you will come across your first Painted Troll.
If your attacks feel ineffective, make sure you are using the Turpentine and keeping an eye on your Stamina bar so it doesn’t drop too low.
After defeating the troll, you can loot Painted Troll Fat from its body, which has both beneficial and negative effects. Continue forward through the vibrant landscape, and you will encounter a second Painted Troll, followed by a third one shortly after. Defeat them and proceed until you reach a rocky area with a noticeable shift in terrain compared to the painted forest you’ve been walking through. Here, you will face the final Painted Troll. After defeating it, approach the body of the Bosmer Thief nearby and collect the Brush of Truepaint from him.
Use your compass to navigate back to Rythe, who will then use the brush to paint a portal back to the real world. Step through the portal and, once back in the house , speak to Rythe to receive your reward—the
Apron of Adroitness.
