The Standard Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered comes with the DLC, Knights of the Nine, included, allowing players to start a series of side quests to collect the Crusader's Relics. One of these quests, Stendarr's Mercy, can be confusing to some players as they uncover the truth behind the curse tied to the Gauntlets of the Crusader. The quest introduces moral choices, backstory, and a challenge that requires more than just strength.
This guide includes a detailed walkthrough and information on how players can cure Kellen in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, along with how to lift the curse and earn the powerful Gauntlets.
Stendarr's Mercy Quest Walkthrough in Oblivion Remastered
After acquiring the Cuirass of the Crusader during the quest Priory of the Nine, you can talk to all the Knights to find out more about the different armor pieces. Sir Casimir is the one you want to speak with to start the Stendarr's Mercy quest. He will tell you the story of the Gauntlets of the Crusader and where you can find them. He will also mention that picking them up is no easy feat, as one must be worthy to do so. Fast travel to Chorrol and make your way to the Chapel of Stendarr.
Inside, at the far corner, you can find the Gauntlets, and attempting to pick them up will pop up a message saying they are too heavy to move. Talk to Areldur about them, and he will tell you more about the Gauntlets and Kellen, a descendant of Sir Casimir suffering from the same curse. Head to the Chapel Hall and speak to Kellen to learn more about the curse.
How To Lift the Curse from Kellen in Oblivion Remastered
Kellen will suggest that Areldur is withholding information about the curse. Go back to Areldur and talk to him again, and this time he will admit that he knows the cure for the curse, but that it involves taking the curse onto oneself. After the conversation, interact with the Altar of the Nine and take the curse onto yourself. This will give you the "Lay Hands" Magic Spell, which you can equip and use on Kellen. Once you do so, Kellen will be cured, and you can go back to the Gauntlets. You will now be able to pick them up, as Stendarr will find you worthy.
As you are cursed, you will fall down every time your stamina or fatigue reaches zero. The only way to cure this is by completing the Knight's questline and collecting all the Crusader's Relics.
