Rumors of an Oblivion remake have abounded lately, with details emerging that it may drop as soon as next month. Oblivion, the fourth release in The Elder Scrolls series, was highly acclaimed on its original release in 2006. While the fanmade Skyblivion is set to be released in 2025 as well, an official Oblivion remake would also be welcome, especially considering the long wait for The Elder Scrolls 6.
Sources claim that the Oblivion remake will be announced and then released over a short period of time, likely just a couple of months between March and June. Fans might be wise to keep their eyes on the Summer Game Fest in June, where more information on The Elder Scrolls 6 may be revealed. A shadow drop for the Oblivion remake at the Summer Game Fest, or even just before it, could be possible too. While shadow drops are rare because of the value in a robust marketing cycle to build hype, the Oblivion remake would be an exception because of its cult status and reputation among gamers.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake rumors haven't indicated details about a key point that may make or break the success of the remake.
The Oblivion Remake and The Elder Scrolls 5's Latest Announcement
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018. Fans have been waiting a long time for more news, and for now there's some hope for news at the Summer Game Fest on June 6. Given the amount of anticipation for an official reveal of The Elder Scrolls 6, a shadow drop alongside the TES6 reveal would be a great way to draw attention to the Oblivion remake, as well as a way to build further hype for The Elder Scrolls 6.
As there hasn't been an official announcement about the Oblivion remake made by either Bethesda or Virtuos Games, many gamers may not be expecting more TES content anytime soon. This would be a problem for other games, but Oblivion is a massively popular game from one of the most well-known franchises of all time, making it a household name for gamers. This makes it the perfect candidate for a shadow drop, as its name sells itself. This could also serve to bring players back into the series or attract new players before the release of The Elder Scrolls 6.
What an Oblivion Remake Could Bring
Oblivion's remake is reportedly being developed by Virtuos Games, a studio that is currently helping remake Metal Gear Solid 3, and has worked on a number of ports for AAA titles. The Oblivion remake is reportedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5 rather than Bethesda's in-house Creation Engine. This may be because it's being developed by an outside studio, but may also be for undisclosed reasons. Because it's being developed in a different engine, it's likely to look very different to the fanmade Skyblivion, which is also slated to be released in 2025.
The Oblivion remake remains unconfirmed, and all these rumors about its planned changes are subject to change or possibly false.
Inside sources have also indicated that players can expect the Oblivion remake to include an overhaul of the original game's combat features, its blocking and stealth system in particular. While Oblivion is still very much a playable game in 2025, some aspects of it haven't aged as well as others, and an overhaul to its combat system to make its physics and mechanics more satisfying would be very welcome. Archery is another system that is supposedly getting an overhaul. In tandem with the combat overhauls is the stamina system, which has been adjusted to be more forgiving than Oblivion's original system.
